Class 3 – Waste collectors

Listening 1

Waste collection can be one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, at times even
more dangerous than police work.
The job includes collecting broken glass; medical waste such as syringes; caustic
chemicals; asbestos; dog attacks.
Besides, there are also direct problems, for example inhaling dust, smoke, and fumes;
inclement weather, traffic accidents, and strong odors that can make waste collectors
physically sick.

Class 4 – My ideal city

Listening 2

J: What is an ideal city, professor?

E: Well, it is a place where you grow your own food, where you use your bike or
walk, where you recycle and make compost and where you collect and use
rainwater.
J: But that’s a city of the past.
E: Exactly, because in the past, people lived simply, they worked at home, did
their own construction and repairs and were good, very good neighbors.
J: ...and they were happier.
E: They were much happier.

Class 5 – Water
