Byzantine Empire

Personally, I think that when people listen Roman Empire they just focus in Rome. Even
though Rome was capital of the Roman Empire, people must consider that this empire
was really huge and conquered many territories, therefore, there was a big mix of culture.
In fact, the Byzantine Empire, also known as Eastern Roman Empire, is an example of mix
of cultures because it was located among Africa, Asia and Europe. Because of its location
and the influence of, let’s say local cultures, Byzantine Empire´s economy, architecture,
literature and so on were unique. All in all, I´m going to share with you my opinion about
the Byzantine Empire, hope you like it.

First of all, I think one of main strengthens of the Byzantine Empire is its economy. I also
think that ins important to know that Byzantine Empire was also known because of their
faster ships and, of course, this helped a lot in foreign trade. Foreign trade had a good
impact economy because there was an intermediary between Europe and Asia and trade
could be practiced respecting certain terms and conditions. In addition, due to the
location of the empire, there was access to many products of one continent that probably
didn´t exist or could be produced in other countries, and negotiations may have occurred.
I also think that foreign trade also helped to the promotion of some products and to the
positioning of countries as best or worst producers of X product.

In addition, I think was really strategic to have a unique coin among the Mediterranean. I
say this because as owners of their coin they could make monetary policies that benefited
them, also because they won´t be affected by exchange rate changes. I also have to said
that the economy of the Byzantine Empire not only depended on foreign trade, agriculture
had a big impact too as well as textile industry. However, I decided to talk about foreign
trade because since that time topics as terms and conditions of foreign trade,
negotiations, business strategy and exchange rate.

Secondly, I think the army of the Byzantine Empire was really good because of the
strategies it used. I mentioned that Byzantine Empire was known because of faster ships,
well they were not only used to practice foreign trade, they were also used for war. The
navy of the Byzantine Empire and the use of unknown weapons such as Greece Fire were
determinant to domain among the Mediterranean. I think is really strategic to use
something the enemy don´t know, provides a great advantage.

Something that I like about this empire is that through it many cultural contents were
exchanged and published in other counties, for example: traditions, literary works, laws,
practices and so on. I also like how they use strategy in war and in their economy. That´s
it.
