Born to a Strixian father and human mother.

Ria has never met her mother nor has

she ever seen a human before. strixians hate humans, and being very similar in
looks to a human herself (except the wings) she was forced to wear a mask anytime
she would go out into public among the strixian society. she was shunned and
bullied by most everyone she encountered, but ultimately she was protected by her
father. she was almost never allowed to leave their dwelling on the outskirts of
their village and rarely did she ever see another person lest she go out against
her fathers will. on one such night, some of the younger strix's saw her and
decided to attack her. they dragged her to a nearby pond and tried to drown her.
ever since that happened she has been deathly afraid of large bodies of water.
after this happened, her father decided to teach her how to defend herself and
taught her how to restrain would be attackers instead of killing them. he made her
vow that she would never kill anyone if she had the ability to let them live.
(excluding beasts of course). years of training later her father was dying of old
age. with his dying breath he wished to see his beloved again, saying her name to
Ria for the first time, "Amelia". as he passed he pointed to an area underneath
their living area. in a small crevasse she found some belongings of her mother. in
a box were a ring with a certain symbol, a necklace that had a similar symbol, and
a note that was written to Ria at her birth.

the note describes how sorry she was that she was not there to help raise her and
that when Ria became old enough, that she could find her in (insert town name here
josh). when she arrived at the town she noticed that many people started to run
from her when they saw her. she did not understand why. she did not know these
people where human. eventually a mob formed and attacked her. they knocked her to
the ground and beat her. she eventually broke away, and ran with everything she
had. she encountered a hut near the forest as she was trying to tend to her wounds.
in the hut she found an old woman who was cooking something. Ria collapsed on the
old womans floor. when she awoke she was on a bed. something felt different though.
her mask was not on her face. she nervously searched for it and found it next to
the bed and hurriedly put it back on. "why do you hide away such a beautiful face?"
said the old woman. startled she looked towards the sound of the voice to find the
old woman sitting a chair in the corner of the room with a mortar and pestle. the
old woman approached her and applied medicine to her bruises and cuts. "The elders
of my village told me to wear this. they said that this mask keeps my curse locked
away, and keeps me safe." Ria said. the old woman gave her a soft look of pity then
nodded. after a brief moment Ria said "do you know why the people in the town
attacked me?" "I have an idea" said the old woman. "and i might have just the thing
to help you." the old woman hands Ria a handful of potion vials. "these potions
will not only help make the people in town like you but it will also lift your
curse while its effects last. which means for the next day you will be able to walk
around town without a mask.

but of course you should give your wounds a little bit more time to heal." heeding
her words, Ria stayed at the old womans house for a few more days to rest and heal.
when it was time for her to leave she set off to the town with potion in hand. she
drank the potion as she grew close to the town. all of a sudden her wings
disappeared and she felt a little heavier. she nervously walked into to town
expecting people to turn on her as they did before but this time people either
payed her no mind or men came to her with gifts and words trying to woo her. she
did not understand what they were trying to do.she started asking people if they
knew her mother. eventually she came to a rugged man about to enter a tavern. he
looked like a traveller of some sort. as she asked about her mothers whereabouts
the man ran his eyes across the ring and necklace. his eyes widened as he drew his
conclusion. "your Amelia's daughter arent'cha? last time i saw her was when i was
in (insert city here josh). she really got me out of a pickle i reckon, yes she
did. if your looking for her then (same city here) would probly(misspell was
intentional) be your best bet!" excited that she finally found some information
about her mother she ran down the road in the direction the man had told her.
little did she know, someone else had an eye on her ring and necklace as well. (you
could introduce this character on the road or being ambushed by small time
bandits.)
