ENGLISH IN SPORTS MIDTERM GUIDELINES

For this class the midterm exam will be a 1-2 page(s) essay reflection on how sports have an
impact on peoples’ life and the importance of sports as part of a culture and society.

Choose one article (in English, not Chinese) that talks about the importance of sports for a
culture and society. Read the article and then write a very short summary of what the article is
about (briefly introduce the article). Then write about your own thoughts and ideas about
the article and the topic. (Your own opinion is more important) Here are some example
questions for guidance (choose only one to answer):

- Do you agree with the ideas presented in the article and why do you agree?
- If you disagree with something, why do you disagree?
- Discuss about the importance of sports in our societies.
*You can come up with your own question to answer as long it is still about the
topic mentioned above.

Midterm exam submission deadline: 29 April, 2020 (2020/04/29)
(Hand in a hard copy in class)
- NO EMAILS
- NO LATE SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED
- NO PLAGIARISM – do not copy paste anything from online

Instructions
The paper must be typed on a computer and comply with the following requirements:

 Font: Times New Roman, font size 12

 Line spacing of 1.5 (not 2.0)
 The length of the mid-term paper should be 400 words or more (not less than 400)
 Write a SHORT summary about the article (do not copy past from the article) and
WRITE YOUR OWN RESPONSE/OPINION ABOUT THE TOPIC
 Print out the article and attach it together with your own writing/essay
 Do not write word for word from the article (use your own words)
 You will get an extra point if you use an idiom that we learned in class
 underline and bold the idiom that you used
