Belfast agreement is a recent agreement that was fully implemented that has created a longer
period of peace in Ireland. Catholics felt mistreated as the minority in Northern Ireland in the 1960’s,
which started the conflict. Protestants wanted to remain in the UK while Catholics wanted to reunite
with the republic of Ireland. Good Friday Agreement of 1998 stated that Northern Ireland could be
separate and rejoin Ireland if majority voted that way.
