General Instructions

(i) All questions are compulsory


(ii) The question paper consists of 22 questions divided into five sections – A, B, C, D and E.
(iii) Section – A comprises of one question further divided into ten sub parts of 1 mark each, are objective type
Multiple Choice Questions. Section – B comprises of one question further divide into ten sub parts of 1
mark each, are Very Short Answer Type Questions. Section – C comprises of six questions of 2 marks
each. Section – D comprises of eight questions of 3 marks each and Section – E comprises of six
questions of 4 marks each.
(iv) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in 2 marks, 3 marks and 4
marks questions. You have to attempt only one of the alternatives in all such questions.
(v) Use of calculator is not permitted.

2 Very Short Answer Type Question.

(i) Write the HCF of smallest prime and smallest composite number.
(ii) α and β are roots of quadratic polynomial p(x) = x 2 – (k–6)x + (2k+1). Find the value of k, if α + β = αβ.
(iii) If 3x – 2y = 5 and 3y – 2x = 3, then find the value of (x + y).
(iv) Write the discriminant of the quadratic equation (x + 5) 2 = 2(5x – 3).

(x) A card is drawn at random from a well shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find the probability of getting neither a
red card nor a queen.

3. Using Euclid’s division algorithm, find the HCF of 15 and 575.

4. A die is thrown once. Find the probability of getting (i) composite number, (ii) a prime number.

Or

Two dices are thrown together. Find the probability: (i) of getting a doublet (ii) of getting a sum 10, of the numbers
on the two dice.

5. ABC is an isosceles triangle with AC = BC. If AB2 = 2AC2, prove that ABC is a right angle triangle.

6. Find the sum of first 15 multiples of 3.

7. Find the value of p, for the following pair of equations 3x – y – 5 = 0 and 6x – 2y – p = 0 are parallel.

8. Find the value of k for which the roots of the equation kx (3x – 4)

9. Show that any positive odd integer is of the form 6q+1 or 6q+3 or 6q+5, where q is some integer.

10. Find the value of k such that 3x2 + (2k+1)x – (k+5) have the sum of zeros as half of their product.

11. If the distance of P (x,y) from the points A (3,6) and B (-3,4) are equal prove that (3x + y) = 5.

Or

If P and Q are points of trisection of line segment joining the points A(2, -2) and B(-7, 4) such that P is closer to A
then find the coordinates of P and Q.

12. Prove that in a right angle triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to sum of the square of the other two
sides.

Or

Prove that the area of an equilateral triangle described on one side of a square is equal to half the area of the
equilateral triangle described on one of its diagonal.

17. Find the coordinates of the points which divide the line segment joining A(-2, 2) and B(2, 8) into four equal
parts.

18. P and Q are the midpoints on the side CA and CB respectively of ∆ABC right-angled at C. Prove that
4(AQ2 + BP2) = 5 AB2.
19. A sum of Rs. 1600 is to be used to give ten cash prizes to students of a school for their overall academic
performance. If each prize is Rs. 20 less than its preceding prize, find the value of each of the prizes.

20. A shopkeeper buys some books for Rs. 80. If he had bought 4 more books for the same amount, each book
would have cost Rs. 1 less. Find the number of books he bought.

Or

A and B working together can do a piece of work in 6 days. If A takes 5 days less than B to finish the work, in how
many days B alone can do the work?

21. On reversing the digits of a two-digit number, number obtained is 9 less than three times the original number.
If the difference of these two numbers is 45, find the original number.

22. Find all zeros of the polynomial 2x4 – 9x3 + 5x2 +3x -1, if two its zeros are (2+ √ 3) and (2−√ 3).

Or

Divide 30x4 + 11x3 – 82x2 – 12x + 48 by 3x2 + 2x – 4 and verify the results by division algorithm.
