A Very Old Man with Wings

The article "A Very Old Man with Wings" talks about an old angel and a girl spider. The

main aim of this paper is to evaluate why the town’s people were more interested in the town

spider rather than the angel, and what it says about human nature. One of the reasons is that the

admission fee to see her was less than the admission fee to see the angel. This motivated the

people to opt for the cheaper option. This shows the conservative nature of human beings, as

they choose for the more affordable things, rather than the more expensive ones.

Secondly, people were allowed to interact with her, ask her all manner of questions about

her weird and absurd state, and to examine her up and down so that no one would ever doubt the

truth of her horror. The angel was locked in the wire chicken coop, and people were only

permitted to observe him from outside. The angel took no part in his act. Unlike the town spider,

he ignored and offered no interaction to his viewers.

This portrays several things about human nature. First, it shows the curious nature of

human beings. People want to explore a mystic, and the town spider offered those answers to

their wildest questions. Second, the spectacle was not only pleasing to the eye but also passed by

a fearful lesson, which got in touch with the human emotion fear in the townspeople. Human

beings are fearful. The reason for her nature was disobedience to her parents, and this was a

moral lesson she passed to her audience. Human beings are emotional beings, and features such

as her awkward shape, together with the real affliction with which she recounted the details of

her misfortune, were heartrending.

In conclusion, the town spider was so full of human truth and passed on a fearful lesson,

thereby captivating the town's people, unlike the angel who was scarcely designed to look at

mortals.
