Southern Region Implementation Plan for 9:00PM switch off light call by

Ho’ble PM
During 6:00 PM load change over, there is observed that HV persists in the grid. All BR/LR would be
switch IN, Parallel lines as per simulation studies will be OEN as per the list in annexure-I.

Operation during peak time up to 8:00PM

Hydro generation would be regulated so as to conserve water to maintain flexibility subsequently

during light Switch Off condition. Preferably Hydro generation can be minimized. Hydro Units
participating in flexibility droop has been configured to 2%.

Thermal generation would be regulated to meet LGB. Preferably Thermal generation can be
maximized.

Operation during 8:00 PM - 8:45 PM

1. All designated senior officers are site

2. Efforts to make ISGS requisition for TM schedule
3. All Hydro station as per table above – should be maximum
4. All on-bars state thermal Unit would be brought to TM as per table above
5. Check all capacitors are Off
6. Check all Reactors are ON
7. Check all Pumps in service (Kadamparai and Nagarjuna Sagar)
8. All Irrigation load would be in service as planned by respective SLDCs
9. Frequency targeted to maintain at lower side of IEGC band i,e 49.90Hz or little below.

Operation during 8:45 PM - 9:15 PM

1. All identified Hydro stations starts ramping down from 8:57PM based on grid frequency
2. Grid security and frequency profile would be primary monitoring parameter during the short
time. As discussed during FOLD meeting on 4th April 2020, DSM and merit order should not
be the constraints for control. Only emergency unit tripping control can be given from
SLDC/SRLDC.
3. State Thermal units starts ramping from 9:05 PM
4. State Hydro units would be start ramping based on frequency from 9:09 PM
5. Pump at Kadamparai and Nagarjunasagar would be tripped in case low frequency
6. Wind generation infeed to ISTS has been configured by POWERGRID to trip at frequency
50.20Hz
 230kV Tuticorin GS - Betam
 230kV Tuticorin GS - Orange
 230kV Tuticorin GS - Mytrah
 230kV Tuticorin GS - GIREL (chandragiri)

Operation during 9:15 PM Onwards

7. All State thermal generation would be maximised as per control area LGB
8. All constituents would maintain ISGS requisition as per control area LGB
9. All Hydro generation would be regulated as per control area LGB
10. Grid normal operation
