Chaplain The Lord be with you

All And also with you.

Chaplain Dear friends, we have come into the presence of God, to thank Him
for the many blessings which our school has received at his hands,
to commemorate before Him the founders and benefactors of our school,
and to dedicate ourselves afresh to His way of Wisdom and Love.

Chaplain O Lord, open our lips

All And our mouths shall proclaim your praise.

Chaplain Let us worship the Lord.

All Praise to His name.

Hymn: Praise, my soul, the King of heaven

Words: Henry Francis Lyte Music: John Goss

1. Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; 3. Father-like, he tends and spares us;
To his feet thy tribute bring. Well our feeble frame he knows;
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, In his hands he gently bears us,
Who like me his praise should sing? Rescues us from all our foes.
Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him!
Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him!
Praise the everlasting King. Widely as his mercy flows.

2. Praise him for his grace and favour 4. Angels, help us to adore him;
To our fathers in distress; Ye behold him face to face;
Praise him still the same for ever, Sun and moon, bow down before him,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless. Dwellers all in time and space.
Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him!
Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him!
Glorious in his faithfulness. Praise with us the God of grace.
Chaplain As Jesus taught us, so we pray:
All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil;
for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory
for ever and ever. Amen.

Chaplain O God, our Father, we thank you for St Olave’s School

and for all who have worked to make it what it is today.
Help us to build on the foundations which have been laid,
so that the fruit of true learning may abound,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All Amen.

Paul and Barnabas Leave Cyprus

13
Paul and those with him sailed from Paphos and came to Perga, in Pamphylia. There John
Mark left them to return to Jerusalem. 14 They continued their trip from Perga and went to
Antioch, a city in Pisidia. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat
down. 15 After the law of Moses and the writings of the prophets were read, the leaders of the
synagogue sent a message to Paul and Barnabas: “Brothers, if you have any message that will
encourage the people, please speak.”
16
Paul stood up, raised his hand, and said, “You Israelites and you who worship God, please
listen! 17 The God of the Israelites chose our ancestors. He made the people great during the
time they lived in Egypt, and he brought them out of that country with great power. 18 And he
was patient with them for forty years in the desert. 19 God destroyed seven nations in the land of
Canaan and gave the land to his people. 20 All this happened in about four hundred fifty years.
“After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet. 21 Then the people
asked for a king, so God gave them Saul son of Kish. Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin and
was king for forty years. 22 After God took him away, God made David their king. God said
about him: ‘I have found in David son of Jesse the kind of man I want. He will do all I want him
to do.’ 23 So God has brought Jesus, one of David’s descendants, to Israel to be its Saviour, as
he promised. 24 Before Jesus came, John preached to all the people of Israel about a baptism
of changed hearts and lives. 25 When he was finishing his work, he said, ‘Who do you think I
am? I am not the Christ. He is coming later, and I am not worthy to untie his sandals.

Hymn: Love divine, all loves excelling

Words: Charles Wesley Music: William Penfro Rowlands
1. Love divine, all loves excelling, 2. Come, almighty to deliver,
Joy of heaven to earth come down, Let us all Thy life receive;
Fix in us thy humble dwelling, Suddenly return, and never,
All thy faithful mercies crown. Never more Thy temples leave.
Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Thee we would be always blessing,
Pure unbounded love Thou art; Serve Thee as Thy hosts above,
Visit us with Thy salvation, Pray, and praise Thee, without ceasing,
Enter every trembling heart. Glory in Thy perfect love.
3. Finish then Thy new creation:
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see Thy great salvation,
Perfectly restored in Thee,
Changed from glory into glory,
Till in heaven we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before Thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

The Gospel reading is taken from John chapter 13 verses 12-20

Serving One Another

12
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and sat down again. He
asked, “Do you understand what I have just done for you? 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’
and you are right, because that is what I am. 14 If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your
feet, you also should wash each other’s feet. 15 I did this as an example so that you should do
as I have done for you. 16 I tell you the truth, a servant is not greater than his master. A
messenger is not greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you will be
blessed if you do them. 18 “I am not talking about all of you. I know those I have chosen. But this
is to bring about what the Scripture said: ‘The man who ate at my table has turned against
me.’ 19 I am telling you this now before it happens so that when it happens, you will believe that
I am he. 20 I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send also accepts me. And whoever
accepts me also accepts the One who sent me.

Hymn: Jerusalem
Words: William Blake Music: Hubert Parry

1. And did those feet in ancient time 2. Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Walk upon England’s mountains green? Bring me my arrows of desire!
And was the holy Lamb of God Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
On England’s pleasant pastures seen? Bring me my chariot of fire.
And did the countenance divine I will not cease from mental fight,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills? Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
And was Jerusalem builded here Till we have built Jerusalem
Among those dark satanic mills? In England’s green and pleasant land.
