OJT Supplementary Videos

1. Project Name: Bahrain World Trade Center

2. Project Duration: 2004-2008
3. Project Location: Manama, Bahrain
4. Method of Construction:
Typical construction was done to build the skyscraper.
5. Innovation of the Construction Process: First skyscraper to be powered by its own wind
energy
6. Problems Encountered:
a. Wind on higher altitude is stronger therefore causing the top turbine spin faster.
b. Deflection of blades could hit the bridges that holds them.

c. The wind turbines were relatively small compared to the average wind turbine size.
7. Solution to the Problems
a. Tapering the shape of the structure helps the wind be funneled into the middle and
distribute the wind properly to the business.

b. The bridges were designed to be V-shaped therefore allowing them to avoid the blades
hitting them.
c. Old models of turbines were researched for suitability in the structure.

8. REFLECTION
In this documentary, I learned that giving up too soon won’t get you to anything. The
architect Shaun Killa never gave up in his project to build a structure with its own energy
generator. In pursuing his goal, he made other people realize that they can do their own part to
help in the environment.
9. Projects like this will help our country lessen the pollution by using environmental energies
like the wind. With a country that has a lot of typhoon each year, projects like this can help
produce energy.
10. As a future engineer, this gave me motivation to pursue my dreams whether the others say
that say that it is undoable. As long as I know my goal will help benefit others along with the
environment, I won’t let anyone stop me trying to do good things.
