Data installation
The information in Scania Multi is divided into
4 different parts. The parts which Scania Multi
needs to run properly depend on which version
of Scania Multi you are using.

Scania Multi Part of Scania Multi Information

Multi Authorised Local database Standard times and technical packages edited in

SQL Server (database) Chassis specifications

The SQL Server database must always be

installed. The service information must be
installed in all versions apart from Multi Parts.

The SQL Server database always contains all

languages.

When installing service information, only the

language you selected is available. If you
ordered several languages, you will receive 1
DVD for each language.

The installation is carried out in 2 steps:

1. Copying of data via the installation pro-

gram.
2. Scania Multi is configured so that it
retrieves data from the location you
selected when installing Multi Config.

Step 2 is necessary so that Scania Multi can

find the copied information. If you install data

on a server, step 1, then each Multi installation

which has to retrieve data from the server must
be configured, step 2.

The installation program, step 1, is included on

each Multi disk and starts automatically. If it
does not start automatically, start the program
from the file Install.exe on the DVD via File
Manager/Explorer. Instructions on the data
installation program are provided further on in
this section.

The configuration program, step 2, Multi Con-

fig, is installed together with Scania Multi. You
start from the Multi program group. Instruc-
tions on the configuration program are pro-
vided in the section Configure Multi

Uninstalling

Uninstalling
Before you install a new version of Scania
Multi, you must uninstall the old version. You
should also uninstall Multidata. You cannot
uninstall data which is saved on a server.

Note:
Always use Uninstall to uninstall Scania Multi.

1. ClickStart on your Desktop, select All

Programs, open the Multi directory and
click Uninstall.
You will be asked whether you are sure you
want to uninstall Multi.
2. Click Yes.

With Uninstall, the software is uninstalled.

Scania recommends that you also remove the
old database before installing the new one.

Proceed as follows:

1. Open Windows Explorer and go to the

drive where the database is stored. The
default is C:\.
2. Deletethe directory with data. Provided
that you did not change the name or search
paths during installation, the directory is
found under C:\MultiDat.

installation
Please refer to the installation instructions for
Scania Multi and Scania Multi databases
below.

In most situations where you have to select

from several options, or enter information, one
option is selected as standard.

Scania recommends that you use the standard

option wherever possible.

If you need to cancel the installation program,

click Cancel.

Installation quick guide

Both of the Scania Multi DVDs contain an
installation quick guide in English. Open it by
clicking the information symbol in the installa-
tion window (1).

The quick guide is 7 pages long. It provides a

brief description that quickly guides you
through the installation.

Conflicts with other

programs
There is a risk of conflict between the Scania
Multi installation program and other programs
if Scania Multi is installed when other pro-
grams are running. An error message is dis-
played. You must therefore cancel the
installation.

Description of installation
Scania Multi can be installed in 2 ways:

• Standard installation
• Advanced installation, where you can make
several choices regarding installation
options.

Note:
Scania Multi comprises 2 DVDs. When a mes-
sage indicating that the first DVD has been
fully installed is displayed, switch to DVD
number 2. The installation program on both
DVDs starts automatically.

System check
• If the computer does not fulfil the recom-
mended system configuration requirements,
a message indicating what is missing will be
displayed. Read the dialogue boxes that are
displayed and follow the recommendations.
• If the Windows operating system on the
computer needs to be updated, a message
will be displayed. Accept the options which
are recommended.
A message indicates that your system is
being updated. When it has been com-
pleted, a message will indicate that the
Windows components have been updated.
If necessary, you will be asked to restart the
computer and then restart the installation.
• If your computer is searching for updates on
the Internet, you must cancel the installa-
tion. Install the components from the Multi
disk instead.
• Installation of the Scania Multi program
requires approximately 12 MB of free
space. The databases require 10-20 GB. The
installation program checks that there is
enough disk space. If there is not enough
disk space, you are given the option of
select a new area on the hard drive. Alterna-
tively, you can cancel the installation pro-
gram, create space on the hard drive and
start the installation program again.

If necessary programs are not

installed
The installation program checks that MDAC,
.NET Framework, the IsoView viewer and the
right version of Acrobat Reader are installed on
the computer. If any of the programs is not
installed, a message indicating this will open
and the program or programs will be installed.
Installation instructions for the programs are
found further on in this manual.

Configure Scania Multi

Configure Scania
Multi
General
Scania Multi saves information on settings
such as language options, database directories
and communication settings in the file
Multi.ini. This is located in the Multi directory,
usually C:\Program files\Multi. When you
have installed Scania Multi, the settings can be
changed in Multi Config, which was installed
at the same time as Scania Multi. Here you can
change the settings you made during installa-
tion without having to reinstall Scania Multi.

All options are displayed in Multi Config

regardless of whether you installed Multi Parts,
Multi Service or Multi. But you can only
choose the options which are applicable to the
version of Scania Multi you installed.

Note:
Close Scania Multi before starting Multi Con-
fig, otherwise you cannot make any changes.
