UNCHECKED GROWTH…
For year politicians have tried to reform the
healthcare system, like with Obamacare, but
nothing has worked. Prices rise every year as no
one puts limits on companies for things like drug
prices and insurance falls out of reach of low-
income adults. People like Jessie McCormick
have even had to quit their jobs just to qualify for
basic healthcare insurance, via New York Times.
Letting drug companies go unchecked only leads
to higher prices for medication people need to
stay healthy. Implementing a sliding need-based
drug prescription scale for those on Medicaid,
would low prices and make sure those in need
are getting their medication.

Improving the system…
Long wait times, ineffective ER’s, and insurance
conflicts have made hospitals more expensive
and less helpful. Often times people are too
scared to even visit the hospital when they need
treatment because they cannot afford it.
Developing systems, such as telemedicine, would
not only help with hospital flow, but it would
reduce the cost of healthcare. ER’s would be less
flushed with unnecessary cases as they can meet
virtually, while reducing costs by avoiding the
hospital.
MAKING CHANGE…
There are several areas of our current
healthcare system that fail Americans,
including Utah families. Healthcare is
outrageously expensive and the care you
get with that insurance is usually sub-par.
Thousands of people suffer from chronic
health illnesses because they cannot
afford treatment. Not to mention the
backlog that several hospitals experience
daily.
The Peter G. Foundation tells us that this
trend of rising costs is only going to get
worse unless a solution is pursued now
(Peterson), Implementing things like
sliding need-based scales and
telemedicine apps would help reverse this
trend by reducing costs and helping
improve the flow of hospitals. Utah families
are suffering from the effects of ineffective
healthcare like high amounts of debt or
chronic symptoms. Trends such as
corporate greed and unchecked growth
need to be reversed before we can have
an effective healthcare system.
