1. What type of document is this?
1. For a textual document: Is it a newspaper, letter, report, advertisement?
2. For an artifact: what is it made of?
3. For a video: is it propaganda, entertainment, documentary, cartoon, training, etc?

2. Who created the document?


1. Who is the author/creator/producer/company that made this source?
2. Is the author trustworthy? How can you find out?
3. When did they make it? Was it recent or a long time ago?

3. Why did they create the document?


1. Are they trying to get you to buy something, do something, support something?

4. How does the information compare to your background knowledge and other sources?
1. What do other pieces of evidence say?
2. Am I finding the same information elsewhere?
3. What is the author of the document not mentioning?
4. What perspectives are missing?
