Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

Admission criteria

Local (domestic) applicants.

To be eligible for a place in MBBS, applicants must meet three criteria:

Academic threshold. 
UCAT performance.
WSU Interview performance, MMI

Academic Merit Requirements

Selection is on the basis of: academic merit (ATAR or its equivalent, for those without a completed degree; grade point average in their
most recent degree, for graduate applicants); results of the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT); and performance at an interview.
For entry into the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery for the 2019 cohort, an ATAR or equivalent of at least 95.5 (93.5 for
applicants from Western Sydney and rural students) is required for school leavers or those with an incomplete degree. For graduates, a
grade point average of 5.6 is required (or 5.1 for WS applicants or rural students).

WSU Medicine Interview Information, MMI

Interviews will be offered to those who meet both academic and UCAT ANZ thresholds.

The WSU interview is a Multistation Mini Interview (MMI). This involves the applicant being asked a series of questions; each question
is asked by a separate interviewer in a separate interview station. Applicants will have approximately eight minutes to respond to the
question before being asked to move to the next interview station.

If you have or expecting to receive an interview offer for University of Western Sydney (UWS) then you should consider attending a
Medical Interview training workshop (/courses/medical-interview-training). Register and secure your spot now as MedEntry only
accepts a small number of students per session.

GWS applicants may have a slightly lower ATAR and UCAT threshold for than non-GWS applicants.

Admission Rankings
Fianl rankings for the MD will be based on interview performance and UCAT ANZ Scores (with a greter emphasis being on the
interviews). 

Western Sydney University (WSU) Interview dates:
WSU will begin process of issuing interview invitations from mid-October until mid-November.

Main round of interviews will be held for all domestic applicants on the 25 - 29 November 2019. 

Main Round Offers will be released mid-January via UAC. There will also be second and third round UAC offers.

There are ve MBBS application categories and it is important to know what category you fall into for the MBBS application process:

1. General Entry Applicants

Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens. Includes current school leavers, non-current schools
leavers (i.e. on gap year or partially completed a university degree) and graduates. A graduate, for the purposes of applying to MBBS, is
someone who has either completed their university degree or anticipates completing in the year of application. 

2. Rural Entry Admission Scheme (REAS)

Rural scheme including current school leavers, non-current school leavers and graduates. Following admission to the MBBS, rural
students will study the same program as students who come through general entry. For details on how to apply, go to Rural Entry

3. International Applicants
All applicants other than Australian citizens, Australian Permanent Residents or New Zealand citizens - either onshore or offshore.

4. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Applicants

5. Transfer Requests
Please note transfer requests are NOT guaranteed. "Transfer requests" are only accepted from Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are currently (or have previously been) enrolled in a Bachelor of
Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (or equivalent course, including combined medical degrees) within Australia or New Zealand. If you have
only studied medicine at an overseas university, you should apply via the General Entry pathway. Transfer request category are not
eligible to apply via any other pathway. If such an applicant is found to have gained a place in the MBBS or MBBS/BA program via any
other pathway, the place will be rescinded.
