I also have a same problem. and yes, i already follow manual instruction but the akamaihd keep in the search engine in the
setting.

Similar issue here.

You can see a black rectangle on the right under the first row. This appears when I clicked the three dots symbol. I cannot
remove this search engine.

Try go to System Preference ->  Profiles, see if there are suspicious profiles added to your mac.
I remove "QuickLook" and the a,akamaihd.net search engine disappeared.

Steven Lee 8572; Do you mean removing the Login Items within the Users & Groups in System preferences? I have none in my
list and I still have the issue.
Or you mean removing my profile?

On Mac remove suspicious profiles from settings profile page
Restart your computer
Go to chrome manage search engines and now you will be able to remove the link
