 A web search engine is a software


system that is designed to search for
information on the World Wide Web.

and then puts the result in the order of
relevance to the topic that was searched for.

would be possible to search for the
information that is specifically needed.

individual can easily access and use within

 Google was
founded by
Larry Page and
Sergey Brin.

 Yahoo was
founded by
David Filo and
Jerry Yang.

 Yahoo operates a portal
that provides the latest
news, entertainment, and
sports information. The
portals also give users
access to other Yahoo
services like Yahoo Mail,
Yahoo Maps, Yahoo
Finance, Yahoo Groups,
and Yahoo Messenger.

 Ask.com is a search
engine that was started in
1996. This website helps
people find web pages that
they are looking for, by
typing in the subject they
want. For example, if
someone is looking for
web pages about dogs, they
would type in "dogs" or
"dog" then press the
'search' button.
BING
 Bing is a search
engine created and
operated by Microsoft,
replacing its former
Live Search, Windows
Live Search, and MSN
Search offerings.

Bing was fully
operational in June
2009.
