Animal Sciences o

The purpose of this research is to prove that the extract from Bakhaw lalaki
Behavioral & Social o
(Rhizophora apiculata) leaves is effective against pathogenic bacteria. The

Sciences
bacteria used for the antibacterial sensitivity testing were Escherichia coli and Biochemistry o
Staphylococcus aureus. The methods of this study includes the preparation of

Biomedical & Health
leaves; extraction of leaves (pulverized leaves was packed into a soxhlet Sciences o

apparatus and extracted with 100 mL of 70% methanol); rotary evaporation; Biomedical
phytochemical analysis; determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) Engineering o

and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC); sensitivity testing of Cellular & Molecular
microorganisms, the positive control used was ciprofloxacin while methanol and Biology o

distilled water were used for negative. (Kirby-Bauer Disc Diffusion Method was Chemistry o

used in the analysis); the plates were then carefully inverted and incubated for 24 Computational
hours at 37°c. After the incubation, a ruler was used to measure the diameter of Biology &
the zone of inhibition. The measurement obtained from the individual discs were Bioinformatics o

recorded and compared with the standards table to determine the sensitivity zone Earth & Environmental o

to determine whether the tested bacterial species is sensitive to the extract. With Sciences
values <8 mm were considered as not active against microorganisms. The mean Embedded Systems o

of the inhibition zone of E. coli is 13 mm while S. aureus is 14 mm. Since the Energy: Chemical o

results are greater than 8 mm and considered as active against microorganisms, Energy: Physical o

the study revealed that crude methanolic extract from Bakhaw lalaki (Rhizophora Engineering Mechanics o

apiculata) leaves has antibacterial property. Environmental
