Michael Trinidad proposes that UTEP should adopt a vision of becoming the "University of the Americas" in the near future. UTEP has a majority Hispanic population and is located on the border of Mexico, so this change would better reflect the diverse cultural influences and strengthen international bonds. Some benefits would include offering more courses on borderland studies, trade networks, and additional doctoral programs. Implementing this plan may require allowing more racially diverse students and providing more language courses to accommodate different backgrounds. Data from UT Austin shows a similar plan achieved positive results.

Through: Dr. P.J Vierra, Assistant Professor From: Michael Trinidad, RWS 3355 Student Date: January 29, 2020 Re: 2030 Strategic Plan Vision I believe that UTEP should adopt the option of University of the Americas in the near future. Through research, the discovery was made that the diversity of the population of UTEP is mostly Hispanic. According to the statistics, that were retrieved from the UTA page, there is more diversity and fusion of the local culture found there. According to Anderson, the future of higher education is due to the dramatic shifts in the general population and increased attendance. That also includes how racially diverse the general population is becoming in the near future. The positive effects of implementing University of the Americas to UTEP is to have a more culturally diverse institution as well as strengthening our bonds with other international countries. Given the location of UTEP, the culture is influenced by the border to Mexico. The long- term effects of this plan is to offer more classes that discuss topics such as borderland studies, courses that discuss the ecosystem and the trade networks, and finally have more doctoral degrees for those students that wish to pursue a future in it. The repercussions for making this plan comes by allowing more students with racial background into the University. Also offering more linguistic courses to accommodate to the incoming students. Using date data from the University of Texas at Austin, this plan worked and provided the results that was looked for.
