n
t Objective: I can use vocal variety through storytelling

Skill: Students will be able to demonstrate an

understanding of vocal articulation, projection, and
inflection while performing in an assigned group.
Activity
P 1. Students will have already learned the definitions of vocal
e articulation, projection and reflection as it relates to
d performance. The definitions were given in their prior class on
a the white board, we went over them in class as a whole. The
g students were then required to study the definitions at home to
o prepare for today's activity.
g
y 2. Students will be divided into groups of 3 or 4 and be given a
choice of fairytale stories to retell. The groups will be assigned
to a story by pulling numbered sticks. Ex. There will be stories
titles written on the sticks. “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Beauty
and the Beast” ect. One representative from each group will pull
one stick, once groups are assigned to a story. They will begin
casting each part.

3. Based on the rubric given to the students in the prior class, I

am looking for a significant change in vocal articulation,
projection and inflection. It does not matter if a character is
originally a female role, I am listening to see how well the
students transition their voices. Individually and collectively to
reflect a coherent performance piece. So on the rubric you will
have individual points as well as collaborative points. The laptop
cart will already be checked out to our class for this activity,
each student will be given a laptop. This will ensure each group
member has an opportunity to contribute to the script writing
and presentation developments. Note, however there will be
one presentation for each group. Everyone in each group will
have access to the slides.
4. Students will write down their character list and script on
google slides, using the Laptop computers. once the script is
finalized with me. The students will then begin recording by
going to Vocaroo.com.The groups will only need to use one of
the Laptops for recording, rotating to each student until
everyone has gone. Once on the website the students will press
the red button to start their character recordings. Vocaroo has a
pause feature located to the left of the play/record/stop red
button. It also has a volume and background noise adjustment
feature located on the lower right of the red button, by clicking
the settings symbol. The students will also be able to redo the
recording clicking the red redo button, by chance someone
accidentally messes up. The red redo button only appears when
a final recording is submitted. if the students are not finished by
the end of class. They will resume next class. The students will
add the hyperlink with their final recordings to a separate slide
in the google slides presentation. Then the recording will be
played in front of the class, the students who are not involved in
the performing group at the time will write down on index cards
who they think is performing which character. They will all turn
in the index card at the end of class for a participation grade.
The recordings should not exceed 10 minutes for each group as
our class time is limited.
