o Grade Level 3rd grade n t Learning Objective • 3.5 The student will investigate and e understand relationships among organisms n t in aquatic and terrestrial food chains. Key concepts include a) producer, consumer, decomposer; b) herbivore, carnivore, omnivore; and c) predator and prey.
• 3.6 The student will investigate and
understand that ecosystems support a diversity of plants and animals that share limited resources. Key concepts include a) aquatic ecosystems; b) terrestrial ecosystems; c) populations and communities; and d) the human role in conserving limited resources. P Online Activity In this activity, students will learn about the relationships e among organisms in aquatic and terrestrial food chains d and the ecosystems that support a diversity of plants and a animals by using prior knowledge on living systems. g o Prior to beginning this activity, the students should g y already have knowledge about the different food chains and ecosystems. This activity is meant to refresh the students memory of the living systems and gain more knowledge about the world that we live in.
The activity asks the students to imagine themselves as a
bumblebee living in its ecosystem. The goal of this activity is to see if you can help the other bees find enough food to save the hive that they live in. Bees use movement to communicate, therefore, the students must do an action to save the hive.
I will begin the online class by introducing the concept of
food chains and the importance of animals and their ecosystem. I will then ask the students to write a short paragraph about how different life would be if they were an animal and the importance of food chains and ecosystems (or discussing online, if technology allows). This will give the students a better idea on the topic at hand.
After this introduction, students can begin the online
stimulation. The students will learn about the different types of bumblebees and and their role in their hive (ecosystem). This is a great activity to help the students explore life as a bumblebee. It allows the students to determine where the best source of food is and also perform a wiggle dance to let the other bumblebees know where to go. This is a great way to teach students about animals and how they survive in their ecosystems. The website gives detailed instruction oh how to play the game. Even though this is a great activity to help the students gain more knowledge, the teacher is not able to assess if the student has gained knowledge from this activity. Therefore, the students must take a screenshot of their completed work and send it to the teacher to be assessed. The must also send a paragraph to the teacher on explaining why it is important that bumblebees share their ecosystem and how food is essential.
