(The teacher will transition from the activity to the lesson proper)

EXPLORE
(The teacher will present the lesson through Guided/Exploratory Approach:
Inductive learning method)

Discussion via Powerpoint Presentation

Reading Stories

The students will read stories of living and non-living things and their roles in the
ecosystem.

Hi, Good Morning! I am Sun, my

E. Discussing new concepts Greek name is Sol. I am the source of
and practicing new skills #1 all energy in the solar system. Earth
is my beloved planet. I create
hundreds millions tons of energy.
The planet earth relies on me
because I give light, warmth, and life.

I am a carrot, I am a producer, and I get my

energy from the Sun. I convert light energy into
chemical energy by performing photosynthesis.
Herbivores love me because I give them energy.

Hi! I am Robin the Rabbit. I am from the wild but

some of my relatives have been domesticated by
humans. I am an Herbivore which means I am
an animal that eats nothing but plants. My
favorite food is carrot. By the way, my mortal
enemy is the fox. Have you seen the fox?

Are you looking for me? I am Robert the Fox.

I am fierce and feisty. I am also an expert in
hunting rodents, birds, and especially
rabbits. People thought that I am a carnivore
but I am actually an Omnivore, in other
words I eat both meat and plants. I also love
berries and fruit too. I am looking for rabbit.
I will hunt Robert the rabbit until he gets
tired of hopping.
Rawr! I am starving. Do you know who I am? I am Leo
the Lion. The king of the jungle. I love to eat meat
and I eat a lot. I can consume 7 kgs. of meat in a
single day. I am a Carnivore, I eat only meat. I am the
top predator of the jungle which means I am an
animal that hunts and eats other animals. The one
that is being hunted by predators are called prey.

Good Day! I am a worm. I am a

Decomposer. I break down organic matter,
like leaves, grass, and dead animals into
compounds that plants can use.

Sun is the main source of light energy in our ecosystem.

Plants are highly dependent on sun’s energy to produce their own food.
Producers can produce their own food through the process called photosynthesis.

Sun (Source of all energy) Plant ( Producers)

Consumers are organisms that feed on other organisms

Butterfly Bird Grizzly Bear

Decomposers are organisms that break down dead plants, animals, or waste.

Bacteria Fungi Worms

Note that there are three types of animals according to their diet/food are
carnivores, herbivores, omnivores.

(examples will be presented through Pictures in GIF format)

Predators are organism that hunts for food while Preys are organisms that are
being hunted by predator.

(examples will be presented through Pictures in GIF format.)

The Food Chain and Food Web

Food chain is a linear sequence of that shows how the organisms are related with
each other by the food they eat.

Food web is the natural interconnection of food chains and generally a graphical
representation of what-eats-what in an ecological community. Another name
for food web is a consumer-resource system.
(A short video analysis about predator and prey relationship will be presented)

Activity Name: Differentiated activity

Strategy Employed: Group Presentation

Materials: Manila paper, coloring materials, markers, pencil (for poster making)
Clean sheet of paper, ballpen (for poem)
Props (for role playing)

To uphold cultural and religious sensitivity the teacher will ask the students on
their religious affiliations (Islam, Jehova’s witnesses, Mormons – Tagalog,
Indigenous People) and assign tasks to them which are ammenable to their
religious and indigenous practices.

Instruction:
1. The learners will be grouped into 3 and choose their leaders.
2. They will be tasked to present a differentiated activities about the lesson on “Food
Chain and Food Web” according to their group.

Group 1- Diagram making

Group 2- Role Playing
Group 3- Poem

3. The group will be tasked to present the output to the class.

4. They will be given 20 minutes to perform the activity.
F. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills #2 5. The teacher will present the rubrics.

(The teacher will process the presentation and provides supplemental information.)

EXPLAIN

To promote higher order thingking skills of learners, the teacher will post the
following guide questions:

1. In your own words, how do you define following:

a. Producer
b. Consumer
G. Developing mastery (leads c. Decomposer
to Formative Assessment 3)
2. How does a predator differ from a prey? Elaborate your answers with
examples.

3. Compare and contrast food chain and food web.

(the teacher will call the learners randomly to answer the given questions based on
their understanding of the lesson/discussion)

H. Finding practical ELABORATE

applications of concepts 1. The students will be asked the following questions:
and skills in daily living
a. Why do we need to study the different roles of organisms in the
ecosystem?
I. Making generalizations and
b. In what way we could take good care of our ecosystem?
abstractions about the
lesson
The teacher will process the students’ answer

EVALUATE

The students group output will serve as their evaluation.

A. Self-check Card (The students must check each indicator to verify if objectives are
achieved)

SELF-CHECK CARD

J. Evaluating learning Indicators: YES NO

1. I know what the different roles of organisms in
the ecosystem are.
2. I know the difference between food chain and
food web.
3. I know what to do in order to preserve the
balance in ecosystem.
What’s YOUR Level?
EXCELLENT – If you got 3 Yes checks
GOOD JOB – If you got 2 Yes checks
LEARN MORE – If you got 1 Yes checks

EXTEND

A Learning Activity Sheet (supeplemental activity- teacher made) will be provided

for students who lived in remote or far flung areas, working students who won’t be
able to attend classes on regular basis, students who have poor to no access to
K. Additional activities for
internet, and learners who were afflicted by COVID-19 virus (Learners in difficult
application or remediation
circumstances). The teaching and learning delivery and assessment of these
students will be modified according to their needs and situations.
