LESSON Teaching Dates JANUARY 15, 2023 Quarter SECOND
PLAN and Time 10:00 – 10:50 AM

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of the interactions for
survival among living and non-living things that take place in tropical
rainforests, coral reefs, and mangrove swamps
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to form discussion groups to tackle
issues involving protection and conservation of ecosystems that serve
as nurseries, breeding places, and habitats for economically important
plants and animals
C. Learning At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
Competencies/Objectives 1. describe an ecosystem;
2. identify and describe the components of an ecosystem,
including living (plants, animals) and non-living (air, water, soil)
factors
3. distinguish the kinds of ecosystem in the environment; and
4. explain the need to protect and conserve tropical rainforests,
coral reefs and mangrove swamps.

Motivation

Have you seen a rotten log?

I have here an example of a rotten log.
What do you see in the rotten log?
So, why I have shown this to you? You will know it in our lesson

B. Establishing a purpose for the UNLOCKING DIFFICULTY

lesson Let us first get to know the meaning of some unfamiliar words that we
may encounter.
1. What is Ecology?
- Ecology is the relationships between organisms and their
environment.
2. What are organisms?
- Organisms are plants, animals and other tiny living things
that may not be visible to the naked eye. Examples:
Human, cat, dog, bacteria, etc.
3. What is a Habitat?
- Habitat is the part of the ecosystem where an organism
lives. Example: ocean, coral reefs, desert, trees, etc.

C. Presenting The teacher will post the word “ECOSYSTEM” on the board.
examples/instances of the new
lesson As you can see, there is a word posted here, everybody please read
the word “ECOSYSTEM”.

Now, what comes into your mind when you hear the word
ECOSYSTEM? Write your answer on the board.

Now, let’s put it altogether. What is an ecosystem? Can you give

some examples?
(Students responses will be written on the board.)
D. Discussing new concepts and Group Activity
practicing new skill #1
1. Show pictures of different ecosystems to the students.
2. Divide the class into 3 groups and give each group a card with
the name of an ecosystem written on it.
3. In their groups, students discuss and list the living and non-
living factors they think are present in their assigned
ecosystem.
4. Ask each group to share their findings with the class.
E. Discussing new concepts and The teacher will facilitate a class discussion about the following:
practicing new skill #2 1. What are the components of an ecosystem?
2. How do they interact with each other?
3. Differentiate the types of ecosystems.
4. What are the different types of ecosystems and their characteristics?
F. Developing Mastery Classify the following a
carbon dioxide birds fish sunlight
trees soil bacteria lion oxygen water
