I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content The learners demonstrate an understanding of organisms interacting with
Standard each other and with their environment to survive.
B. Performance The learners should be able to conduct a collaborative action to preserve the
Standard ecosystem in the locality.
C. Learning The learners should be able to differentiate biotic from abiotic components
Competencies of an ecosystem. S7LT-IIh-9
Learning Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:

a. identify biotic and abiotic components of ecosystem;
b. recognize the importance of these components in the ecosystem; and
c. design and build a miniature habitat using recycled materials.

Activity Activity 1. ECO-TOUR PICTURE ANALYSIS
The teacher will project the image using PowerPoint Presentation.
Direction: Carefully observe the image provided. In a ½ crosswise, list
all the objects and elements you can identify in the image, categorizing them
in the table. Submit your answer in 5 minutes.

Analysis The teacher will ask the following question to the students:
a. How do you find the activity? Did you find it easy or challenging to
identify the elements in the image?
b. Based on the image, what are the living and non-living things that are
present?
c. Can you give an example of a habitat with its living and non-living
organisms?
Abstract Components of an Ecosystem
The teacher will present the lesson using PowerPoint Presentation.

Ecosystems are made up of living things (biotic components) and non-

living things (abiotic components). An Ecosystem may contain many
habitats where organisms obtain their foods, water, shelter and other things
in order to live, grow, and reproduce.
Biotic components are the living parts of an ecosystem. The term
"biotic" is formed by the combination of two terms, "bio" meaning life and
"ic" meaning like. The term means life like and is related to all the living
entities present in an ecosystem.
The presence of Biotic Components and their biological by products
affect the composition of an ecosystem. Biotic resources include all living
organisms from animals and humans, to plants, fungi, and bacteria.
Biotic factors comprising the ecosystem include:
1. Humans
2. Animals (Dogs, Cats, Lions, Monkeys, Bears, etc.)
3. Insects (Flies, Mosquitoes, Bugs, Ants, etc.)
4. Birds
5. Plants (Trees, Flowers, and Grasses)
6. Worms
7. Bacteria and Viruses
The interactions between various biotic factors are necessary for the survival
and reproduction of each species.

Abiotic Components are the non- living parts of an ecosystem. The term
abiotic refers to the non-living entities in the ecosystem. Sunlight, water, land,
temperature- all constitutes the abiotic factors.
Other abiotic factors comprising the ecosystem include:
1. Climate 6. Type of soil
2. Humidity 7. Light
3. Precipitation 8. Water
4. Wind 9. Oxygen / Carbon dioxide
5. Altitude

Abiotic factors are the non-living, physical and chemical factors that influence
an ecosystem.
Application Activity 2. HOMECOSYSTEM
Direction: On a short bond paper, draw your home and its surrounding
environment. Describe the kind of ecosystem you have at home and
enumerate its living and non-living things. Let your artistic side shine! Use
colors and visual elements to make your drawing both informative and
visually appealing.

Assessment Design and Build a Miniature Habitat: A Journey into Sustainability!
Create a miniature model of a specific habitat using recycled materials,
focusing on its diverse living and non-living components. Decide which type
of habitat you want to recreate (e.g., forest, desert, rainforest, coral reef).
Consider your interests and readily available materials. Submit this on next
Friday and present it in front of the class.
