What is plugins?
In computing terms, a plugin is a software component that
adds a specific feature to an existing computer program.
When program supports plugins it enables customization.
Plugin, also called add – on or extension, computer software
that adds new function to host program without altering the
host program itself.
Uses: -
Widely used in digital audio, video, web browsing and
plugins enable programmer to update a host program while
keeping the user within program environment.
Types and Application:
Audio editors use plugins to generate, process and
analyze sound.
Examples: -
AR dour and Audacity are examples of such editors.

Digital audio work station (DAWS) used plugins to


generate sounds or process it.

Logic Pro X and Pro Tools
What is Driver?
In a computer, a driver is a piece of software that tells
hardware how to run on a certain operating system.
That means your PC card, DVD drive, video card and other
hardware all use drivers to make their operations work.
Types: -
More commonly known as a driver, a device driver or
hardware driver is a group of file that enable one or more
hardware devices to communicate with the computer
operating system.
Uses: -
Without drivers, the computer would not be able to send and
receive data correctly to hardware devices, such as a printer.
A driver provides a software interface to hardware devices,
enabling operating system and other computer programs to
access hardware functions without needing to know precise
details about the hardware being used.
System Software: -
System software is a type of computer program that is designed to run
the computer hardware and application programs.
The operating system is known the best example of system software.
Types: -
Operating system:
Harnesses communication between hardware, system program and
other applications.
Device driver:
Enables device communication with operating system and other
programs.
Firmware:
Enables device control and identification.
Translator:
Translator high – level language to low – level machine code.
Examples:

Application Software
Application software is a term which is used for software created for
specific purpose.
It is generally a program or collection of programs used by end users. It
can be called an application or simply an app.
A software which is developed to help the users to perform specifies
task is called application software.
Purpose: -
The purpose of an application software is to meet specific users need.
Examples: -
Examples of an application software include:
 A word processor
 A spreadsheet
 An accounting application
 A web browser
 An email client
 A media player etc.
Browser: -
A browser is a software application used to locate, retrieve
and display content on the world wide web, including web
pages, images, video and other files.
As a client/server model, the browser is the client run on a
computer or a mobile device that contact the Web server and
request information.
Application: -
A web browser, or simply browser, is an application used to
access and view websites.
Common web browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer,
Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and APPLE safari.
Examples:
Ajax enables a browser to dynamically update information on
a webpage without the need to reload the page.
BROWSERS

Cookies: -
Cookies are small files which are stored on a user’s
computer.
They are designed to hold a modest amount of data specific
to particular client and websites, and can be accessed
either by the web server or the client computer.
A computer cookie is more formally known as an HTTP
cookie, a web cookie, an internet cookie, or a browser
cookie.
The name is a shorter version of magic cookie which is a
term for a packet of data that a computer receives, then
send back without changing or altering it.
Purpose: -
The purpose of cookies is to help the website keep track of
your visit and activity.
That’s would make it impossible to buy anything online
A website might also use cookies to keep a record of your
most recent visit or to record your login information.

Operating System: -
An operating system (OS), in its most general sense, is
software that allows a user to run other applications on a
computing device.
The operating system manages a computer’s hardware
resources, including input devices such as keyboard and
mouse.
Output devices such as display monitor, printers and
scanners.
Examples:
Some examples include version of Microsoft window (like
window 10, window 8, window 7, window vista and
window XP) Linux, Chrome OS etc.
Functions:
 Booting: Booting is the process of starting the
computer operating system starts the computer to
work.

Arithmetic Logic Unit


An arithmetic logic unit is a digital circuit used to perform
arithmetic and logic operations.
It represents the fundamental building block of central processing
unit (CPU) of a computer.
Modern CPU contain very powerful and complex ALUs. In addition
to ALUs, modern CPU contain a control unit (CU).
