N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Kalyn Morimoto Date of Activity: 2/17/2020 Faculty name: Darlene Lacroix

Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with

(be specific about the purpose and your role):

The professional activity that I decided to participate in was the Eclipse ACLS training. The

purpose was to educate healthcare professionals (or soon-to-be healthcare professionals) on the

identification and management of life threatening emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, through a

combination of classroom teaching and hands-on training. Realistic clinical scenarios were

conducted to reinforce various concepts, including the following: providing basic life support,

the identification and initiation of early management of peri-arrest symptoms, the management

of cardiac arrest and ACS, and ACLS algorithms. In order to be adequately prepared for the

training, students must demonstrate proficiency in basic life support, possess EKG interpretation

skills, and have an adequate understanding of ACLS drugs (i.e. epinephrine).

Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?

This activity was held at Eclipse CPR Training, which is located in Tucson. The training was six

hours long. The prep work associated with the class, which included completing an online pre-

test, took approximately two hours. In total, I dedicated approximately eight hours toward

completing this activity.

Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).

This class has provided me with a more comprehensive understanding of the life-threatening

conditions outlined in the course and how to properly manage them. In addition, I was able to
improve my EKG interpretation skills, recognize the value of effective team dynamics, and

improve my proficiency in basic life support. After completing this training, I feel that if a

serious clinical event were to occur in the future when I’m an RN, I will be better prepared to

handle the situation effectively.

How would you continue to use this experience throughout your nursing career?

In the future, I hope to work in the cardiovascular ICU. Patients in this setting are at risk for life-

threatening events because their conditions are relatively unstable. In case an adverse event were

to occur, this training has provided me with an advanced understanding of how to respond. In

addition, many of these patients are on telemetry and require close monitoring. Thus, it is

important to be proficient in EKG interpretation in order to effectively monitor, identify, and

recognize an abnormal rhythm and be prepared for a potential adverse event.

Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future;

why or why not? (Describe)

I would recommend this professional experience in the future, especially to students who wish to

work in a high acuity setting. This training teaches you how to effectively manage life-

threatening situations and improve patient outcomes.

Brochure or proof of attendance obtained if applicable? Yes; I have attached my ACLS

eCard with this assignment.
