Outside Door Handles

FOR SILVERADO/SIERRA 1999-UP


TAHOE/SUBURBAN/YUKON/AVALANCHE 2000-UP

Items you’ll need to complete the install:


1. Flathead screwdriver
2. 10mm socket & Drive
3. 10mm open-ended wrench
4. 7mm socket & Drive

REMOVING THE DOOR PANEL
1. Remove the manual door lock switch. Use a small flat head screwdriver to carefully pry around
the edge. The switch is removed by pulling straight out.

2. Remove the window/lock controls by pulling up on the outside edge of the unit. Unplug the
connections.
Alert – Model year 2003 & up – skip this step.

3. Remove the 2 screws located around the armrest holding the door panel in place.
Model year 2003 & up only have 1 screw (not shown in above picture)

For Rear Doors – 2nd screw is located at the bottom of the door panel.

4. Remove top triangular piece opposite the outside mirror. The bottom of the trim piece hooks into
the door panel. Pull from the top front edge to release the clips.

5. Remove the door handle bezel. Pull out from the backside of the panel and the two clips will pop
out. (See picture)

Alert!! Model Year 2005 Supplement:

1. Two additional pieces must be removed. Cap located near the door latch, see picture. It will pry
off easily using a flat blade screwdriver or your fingernails. This will expose a torx screw.

2. Using a T20 torx bit, remove the screw.

3. Look for a similar locking cap near the speaker grille. This cap is actually a retainer which needs
to be pulled out. A flat blade tool will work perfectly (about 3/8”). Caution: pry carefully as to
not scratch the door panel.

6. Lift straight up on door panel and it will come off. You can see the white hooks on the back of
the door panel in the picture.

7. Disconnect the door courtesy light. Reach in after you lift the door panel up and remove the light
connection.
8. Disconnect the speaker and remove the door panel from the vehicle.
9. Pull back on the clear plastic water shield starting at the top right corner. You do not need to
remove the shield completely. Just enough to gain access to the handle from the inside.

10. Remove the round rubber plug from the side of the door.

REMOVING THE HANDLE

11. Remove the three 10mm nuts securing the handle to the door.
a. Two nuts are accessible through the access hole.
b. The third requires an open-ended wrench.
(You may want to use a magnet inside the door to prevent the nuts from falling out of reach.)
12. Disconnect the locking bar attached to the key mechanism.
13. Remove the door handle.

14. Remove the key mechanism (if applicable).

INSTALL THE NEW DOOR HANDLE


15. Install the key mechanism (if applicable) to the new door handle.
16. Connect the locking bar to the door handle
17. Install the nuts to secure the door handle to the door.
18. TEST the door handle and locking ability.
19. Reposition the clear plastic shield.
20. Install the rubber plug to the side of the door.
21. Install the door panel and 2 – 7mm screws securing the panel.
22. Install the inside door handle trim piece and top corner trim piece.
23. Connect the window and lock switches and install to the door panel.

24. Install the lock switch over the lock bar.
