TD1- STRUCTURAL MODELING

Geometry
Slab TH = 120mm.
Floor to floor height = 3.0 m
Materials:
Concrete: Slab and beam : 𝑓 = 30 MPa; Column and wall: 𝑓 = 45 MPa
Reinforcement 𝑓 = 400 MPa;
Load
Superimposed dead load = 1.5 kN/m2; Live load = 2.0 kN/m2;

1. Calculate the load of brick wall per m2 of slab

2. Estimate the dimension of the beam using the following recommendation.

3. Modeling in ETABS. Now we focus the study on beam in grid 2.
 Place the live load to get the maximum effect of bending moment
 Calculate the bending moment for ULS and SLS. Show the maximum moment at support.
 Study the effect of joint beam-column on the distribution of bending moment: end length
offset, stiffness factor.
 Study the effect of stiffness reduction on the distribution of bending moment: a. No stiffness
reduction, b. Reduce stiffness of the beam and slab to 50% of its initials value, no stiffness
reduction in the column c. Reduce stiffness of the beam to 35%, slab to 25%, and column to
70% of its initial value.
 Study the effect of beam offset in the distribution of internal force.
4. Reinforcement design using ETABS

 Calculate the longitudinal and shear reinforcement for beam

 Sketch the reinforcement of the beam

5. Deflection calculation

Suppose the stiffness of the beam is reduced 50% due to crack and assume that the effect of creep
increases the deflection under sustain load by 200%.

 Check the limit of deflection. The deflection limit is L/250 for total deflection and L/500 for
deflection after construction.
 Study the effect of beam offset on deflection.
