Employee relation management in Islamic perspective, western and Pakistani perspective

Employee relation management is to manage relationships between various levels of employees


in an organization. It is considered to be very important for the success of the organization as it
can motivate the employees to work hard or de motivates employees according to the culture of
the organization about the employee relation.

Employee relation management in Islamic perspective:


In Islam, all people are equal and there are equal rights of all the people and there should not be
any injustice according to the Islam. Before Islam, there were no rights of people and they
treated their employees badly. Islam gave rights to the labors and taught people of living.
• Justice:
In Islam, justice is very important. All people should be treated equally without any
discrimination of caste, color, race, gender or country. All the people are respected as they are the
creatures of the Allah. There should be justice for every person. There should be strict laws in the
organizations and these laws are obligated to each and every person in the organization without
discrimination of position in the organization. Justice should be for everyone.
Almighty Allah says in the Qur’an: {O you who believe, stand out firmly for justice, as
witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it
be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your
hearts), lest you swerve, and if you distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is
well acquainted with all that you do.} (An-Nisaa’ 4: 135)

According to Prophet (P.B.U.H), no one is superior over other and all the people are equal. It
does not matter whether you are from other nation or not. All the human beings are considered as
equal and it’s the message of Allah to be treated as equally and it should e followed in the
industries as well to consider every person equal and should not be any discrimination.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said the following words in his last
sermon:
“O people, indeed your Lord is one and your father is one. Behold, there is no superiority for an
Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab, nor for a white person over a black
person, nor for a black person over a white person, except through piety.”

High respect for work and workers:


In Islam, workers are given high respect as they work hard to earn. If someone is doing bad acts
or acts which are forbidden in Islam, he should not do it.
• Clear and proper agreement
All the agreements between employer and employee must be clear and both the parties should
abide according to the agreement. Employee should work honestly according to the agreement
and employer should not put more burdens on the employee that he cannot bear.
Allah says in the Qur’an {O you who believe, fulfill your contracts.} (Al-Ma’idah 5: 1)
 The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,
“Muslims must abide by their agreements, unless there is an agreement that makes halal what
is haram or makes haram what is halal.“ (At-Tirmidhi)
According to the Islam, there should be proper agreement with the employees and there should
not be anything included which forbidden in Islam.
• Dignity of workers
According to the Islam, employees should be treated with respect and dignity as Islam is against
to sit idle or do begging. As in Islam, no work is considered as low level work as Islam inspires
doing work and Prophet (P.B.U.H) spoke very highly of those who work hard and earn for the
family. In organizations, every employee should be given respect as they work to earn.
According to the Islam, a person should give respect to their companions working with him.

{Serve Allah, and make not any partners with Him in His divinity. Do good to parents, kinsfolk,
orphans, those in need, neighbors who are near, neighbors who are strangers, the companion by
your side, the way-farer (you meet) and those whom your right hands possess: for Allah loves
not the arrogant, the vainglorious. (Nor) those who are stingy, or enjoin stinginess on others, or
hide the bounties which Allah has bestowed on them…} (An-Nisaa’ 4:36-37)

• Kindness to workers:
According to the Islam, employees are treated kindly as they should be given safe and healthy
environment, should be compensated if they are injured and should be given money to the older
people who cannot work, there should not be any burden upon them which they cannot bear, they
should be given proper time that they can give to their families and relatives, minors should not
be used for labor.
“Your brothers are your responsibility. Allah has made them under your hands. So whosoever has
a brother under his hand, let him give him food as he eats and dress as he dresses. Do not give
them work that will overburden them and if you give them such task then provide them
assistance.” (Al-Bukhari)
• Proper and timely wages:
According to the Islam, workers should be given proper wages and there should not be any
discrimination in giving the wages to the workers. They should be given wages as decided and
they wages are given timely to the workers. As in organizations, worker’s wages are delayed and
this is against the teaching of the Islam. Employees should be given their wages before their
sweat is dried.
Allah says,
{To the Madyan people We sent Shu`aib, one of their own brethren. He said: “O my people,
worship Allah; you have no other god but Him. Now has come unto you a Clear (Sign) from
your Lord. Give just measure and weight, nor withhold from the people the things that are their
due; and do no mischief on the earth after it has been set in order: that will be best for you, if you
have Faith.} (Al-A`raf 7: 85)

Employee relation management in western perspective


In western perspective, there are some theories related to the employee relation management in
an organization. These theories are considered to be successful and are implemented in the
organization. Employee relation is also considered important in western culture and there are
some theories related to the employee relation management as:

• Relation oriented theory:


In this theory, there should be a good relation between employer and the employee in the
organization so that work is done with motivation and there is culture of care in the organization.
Relation oriented culture is motivated in the organization where work is done by making good
relations between the employee and the employer. As employees are motivated and work hard
when they are supported by their managers and feel like family and their mistakes are forgotten
and they are motivated to work well.
If there is anything needed by the employees, managers provide assistance and help to satisfy
their employees. This is mostly done when there is no time frame of work as it is not known
when will be the target achieved so organization use relationship oriented behavior with their
employees so that people do their work with full efforts are motivated to achieve the goals of the
organizations. This behavior is liked by the employees in the organization very much and it is
very successful behavior.
• Task oriented theory:
In this theory, organizations use task oriented behavior to achieve their goals. Employees are
given tasks and they have to fulfill these tasks so that organization can achieve its targets. These
employees are not treated with relation oriented behavior and they have to fulfill these tasks.
This behavior is mostly used in short term tasks and mostly used for selling the products in short
interval of time like sales persons are given tasks to sell these quantities of products in a specific
time frame and they have to do it as it is their duty. This behavior is not liked by the employees
mostly but is effective for the organizations for achieving these tasks.
• Employee empowerment:
This is theory of the western culture that they should empower their employees to take decisions
on their own. Employees are given tasks and they have to do it by whatever means they want to
achieve this target. They have to use their minds and this creates innovative works in the
organizations as many employees have different ideas of doing works so organization gets a lot
of ideas to do things.
This motivates the employees as they feel that they are valued and their abilities are enhanced by
making decisions in the organizations. This creates a culture of confidence in the employees
working in the organization. There are many benefits of this culture but also have some
disadvantages as employees may do some unethical works by using their powers to achieve the
organization goals. An example of using these powers unethically is wolkswagon as employees
use their powers in a bad manner to achieve organization goals. They use a chip which shows
low consumption of gasses when cars are run in the test and company had to bear many expenses
when their fraud is caught.

Employee relation management in Pakistani perspective


In Pakistani perspective, employees are well cared as there is compliance depeartment in the
Paksitani industries. There are many industries in Pakistan where employees are cared as a lot as
there is compliance department in the human resource department in the Pakistani industries. The
compliance department in the industries see whether there is need of eployees and see what they
can do to fulfill these needs. If an employee faces any difficlty, the compliance department sees
what they can do to avoid these problems. Employees give application in the human resource
department about their problem and human resource eliminates their problems.
In Pakistani industries, employees are rewared when they show good performance so that
employees are happy and motivated in their work. industries give bonuses to their employees so
that their morale boost and they give more outcome to the industry. Sometimes there is get to
gather of employees of the companies and tours of the employees so that they do not feel like
robots and there can be friendly relationship between the employees in the organization. In
Pakistani indutries, there is behaviour of equality as in organizations, there is food made for
everyone and even owners of that company eat the same food as all the employees in the
industry eat.
In Pakistani organizations, there is careful environment for the employees as there is paid
holidays of sickness and these organizations treat employees in a good manner. They give 2
holidays in a week and additional 2 holidays for a month. Organizations also provide cars to the
people ralated to the marketing departments. Worker also given facilities like social welfare cards
from which they can support their family as they can teach their children in good universities and
also treat their families in good hospitals.
Shahkam Industry
Shahkam industry is a good example of workers to be treated well in Pakistan as Shahkam
provides their employees with facilities as compliance department gives rewards to the
employees and give bonuses to their employees and there is friendly environment in the
organization and there is also healthy environment in the industry. They also give good pay
structure to their employees so they can meet their needs.
CureMD
it is a industry which is based on IT industry and they also give their employees many facilities
as they provides very good medical assistances to their employees as their employees can check
them in one of the best Pakistani hospitals and industry gives money of their medical bill.
Nabeel Industries
Nabeel Industies also provides their employees with many facilities and one of the most useful
facility to their employees are social welfare card from which they can give education to their
children and treat their families in hospitals without giving any money.
Netsole
Another good example of Pakistani company is Netsole as they treat their employees in very
good manner. If an employee got sick, industry gives money to the employee so that employee
can be treated well. All the holidays are paid in the process of illness. Everyone eats same food
cooked including owners of the company. They also arrange tours for their employees and all the
expenses are form the company. They also prvides 2 holidays in a week and 2 additional holidays
in a month. They also provides time for discussion in the industry so that people interact with
each other. There is also gym facility in the company and is of free of cost.
