Summary of the Lesson In this lesson students will receive an introduction to the
SIOP Process with a focus on Lesson Prep and Building
Background.

2. Why is Lesson Prep and Building background so vital to
the SIOP model and general instruction.

Objectives Students will:

model, after my lesson, with 85% accuracy.
● (Level 2) Predict the importance of planning and
developing connections in lessons, after my lesson,
with 85% accuracy.
● (Level 3) Assess the importance of Lesson Prep and
Background info, after my lesson, with 85%
accuracy during my activity.

1. I will activate students prior knowledge by asking them
why it is important that our lesson plans have a before
segment?

Strategies, and Checking for Understanding)
1. (10-15 Minutes) Google Slides: I will present a
brief google slides presentation that will review
the 8 major components of SIOP before focusing
on the first two stages of the model.
2. (2-3 Minutes) Breakout Session: How are some
ways that you can bring in background
information into a lesson in your subject area.
3. (10-15 Minutes): Lesson Plan Review: I will
screenshare and review some of the background
information for my lesson plans as well as my
objectives
4. (15 Minutes): SIOP Practice: Students will pick
a topic in their subject area and will have to create
objectives for that topic, include language
demands, and an organizational tool.
(2 Minutes) AFTER (Closure, Formative Assessment,
and Extension Activates)
