Example: An isolated signal with pedestrians

indication is to be installed on a right angled
intersection with road A, 18m wide and road B,
12m wide. The heaviest volume per hour for each
lane of road A and B are 275 and 225
respectively. The approach speeds are 50 and 40
kmph for road A and B respectively. Design the
timing of traffic and pedestrian signals

Design of Pedestrian Signal Road A
 Do not walk (DW) period of pedestrian signal at road A
(PSA) is red period of traffic signal at B.
(PSA), DWA= RB=27.64 secs
(PSB), DWB= RA=22.36 secs
 Pedestrian clearance intervals (CI) are of 15 and 10
sec for road A and B
\ Walk time (W) is calculated from total cycle length
For PSA, WA= 50 – (27.64+15) = 7.36 sec Road B

For PSB, WB= 50 – (22.36+10) = 17.64 sec
