INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

According to 2017 police figures, anyway. There are several types of crime that the
government uses to determine how naughty Malaysians have been, and these are called index
crimes. Among them, motorcycle theft has been the most committed index crime so far, and in
2017, there were 31,577 cases of stolen motorcycles reported to the police. This is a lot higher
than the number of stolen cars (8,482, or about 23 a day) and other motor vehicles like trucks,
vans and steamrollers, among other things (2,099).

While the volume of motorcycles being stolen differ widely between states, with Selangor
being the highest (7,945) and Perlis the lowest (186), in almost all states motorcycle theft is the
most common index crime. Almost all states, because in Negeri Sembilan they had more break
ins and other thefts than motorcycle thefts, but still. As for how they do it, it varies. Some bike
thieves work in pairs, breaking the handle lock and starting the engine using a master key, while
others use Allen keys and cut the engine switch to start the bike.

In this study, the research is conducted at Master Lock Company which is an American
company. This research about the security lock that been produce by the company to overcome
the motorcycle and bicycle theft.

1.2 Purpose of Study

The purpose pf the research is to identify the capabilities of security lock to reduce
motorcycle and bicycle theft.

1.3 Problem Statement

The case study was performed to analyze the real situation of motorcycle and bicycle
theft. Master Lock Company had been chosen to perform our research in the case study. The
company produced several line of premium security lock products. The security lock that been
produced by this company have several weakness which are un-friendly and low security due to
uses of key for the security lock. Key locks or security lock are often referred to as traditional
locks since the availability of more technologically advanced locks. These locks must be
manually engaged to operate the locking pins inside, which in turn allows the user to lock or
unlock the door. If they want to create a new product to enhance the security of motorcycle, they
need to create security lock without a key such as RFID Locks.
 FINDING

4.1 Findings
This case study is an analysis that been made for technology-based product. Security lock
was chosen for the group and a research regarding the product is made and several problems had
been found throughout this case study. The problem that been faced are shown as below:
1. Rusty
The key of the security lock and the security padlock didn’t last longer which it become rusty
after being use for long period. In Malaysia, the rusty process become much faster due to the
weather condition which are frequently rain and sunny day.
2. Master Key
A cheap or low quality security lock can be open by using master key. Master key is a key
that can open multiple number of padlock.
3. Lost or forgot to bring the key lock
The most common problem for the security lock that using the key are sometime the owner
forgot to bring the key or lost it. It require a professional locksmith to unlock it or the
padlock need to be break.

4.2 Discussions
There are 3 major problem that had been identified through this case study which are
rusty, master key and lost or forgot to bring the key lock. That are the most common issues that
happened to the product.
Due to the problem that been faced by the company, the company came out with several
ways to overcome the problem. The solution is by using RFID lock which have data encoded on
an RFID chip that is machine-readable.
