Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid

Kseniia Zalyvadna
How to explain what is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid in simple words? A
pyramid represents main needs of a person. According to A. Maslow, the needs of
one type must be fully satisfied before another need of a higher level becomes
operational. Another pattern observed by Maslow is that when simpler needs are
met, a person begins to reach for a higher order need. For example, for a human
being it is more important to satisfy physiological needs than esteem needs.
Moreover, belongingness and love needs cannot be achieved, if safety needs
were not satisfied.

In marketing sphere this pyramid can be used in a little bit different way. The
pyramid is used for the understanding and application of those needs to assess
the relevance of consumer needs and adjust the offer for greater profit.
Marketers may use this pyramid to develop sales strategies.
