Module 1 Discussion 1: Please Introduce Yourself

In attempt for us to get to know each other a little better, use any communication
technology of your choice to introduce yourself to the rest of the class by answering the
following questions:

Who are you?

Where did you grow up?
What was your major in college?
What was your favorite and least favorite job?
What do you do when you are not working on school assignments?
What do you plan to do after you nish the PhD program?
Do you own a pet? If yes, please add revealing details about her/him/it.
Name one of your favorite books, movies, food, and travel destinations.

You may simply respond to these questions by typing in your answers, which means
you will be choosing to use text as the technology of choice. However, if you prefer, you
may choose any other technology tool to introduce yourself to the rest of the class - so
if you do, please post the link here.

Module 1 Discussion 2: Discuss your Thoughts about e-Portfolios

For the nal semester project in this course, you will create an e-Portfolio that can be
used to present professional information about yourself and used when you are
seeking employment. In the Module 1 materials, there readings and videos that deal
with e-Portfolios, especially in academic settings as well as tips for creating an e-
Portfolio with free tools, Wix, Weebly, Goggle Sites and Canvas. In addition, there are
also example e-Portfolios that have been created by students and educators available
for you to view.

For this assignment, please post your thoughts about:

the value of using an e-Portfolio when seeking employment as a new faculty

member at a college or university;
what and why you liked or disliked any speci c features you saw in any of the
example e-Portfolios you viewed that you think might be helpful to you when
you design your own portfolio;
which tool you think you might like to use to build your own e-Portfolio and why
you selected this tool? (Please note that you may discuss using Wix, Weebly,
Goggle Sites, Canvas or any other tool you would like to use, and you may select
a di erent tool later if you change your mind).

Also, please monitor the discussion forum throughout the week and post replies to the
postings of other students as well as answer any questions or make follow-up
comments about your own posts. You should keep in mind that your posts should elicit
responses and re ections from other students that build upon and integrate multiple
views as well as take the discussion deeper.
