BRIDGE ENGINEERING

A TALK ON
THE ORESUND BRIDGE
CONNECTING SWEDEN AND DENMARK
The concept of a bridge over the Öresund was first formally proposed in 1936
by a consortium of engineering firms who proposed a national motorway
network for Denmark.
From vision to reality Stronger ties towards Europe also created a need to
bring Scandinavia closer to the European continent.

After years of debate, in March 1991 Sweden and Denmark signed an

agreement to create a crossing. Each country would hold a 50% stake in the
project. It was the first step toward the Oresund Bridge.

No barrier to height of piers was put as
there was no air traffic on swedish side
