CHAPTER 9
1. a. It was discern by the writer in a form of a flashback. Juls contemplated her past for it had
been a huge impact as to what she has in the present.
b. The writer perceived the story by how Juls’s past was an inpiration to her. In retrospect, Juls
was one of those who hoped of having a career in Manila.
c. Juls depiction of her life and experiences with her family have molded her to what she is now.
d. Juls commend Teray for being appeased by simple things. It made her feel guilty since she was
never contented.
e. Her life in Manila made her extremely absorbed because of her career and lifestyle. Catching
up with her friend Teray and having a short talk, she had a glance of her simple life in province
and realized that simple things are what really matters the most.
2. Most people from her hometown see manila as the “city of dreams”. Little did they know that
it’s not always what it seems although she was able to fulfill her dreams.

4. Her father entered the politics in their province and was known for being kind and generous to
his people. In fact, he never object any request coming from the people and died because of his
dedication to serve people.
5. They once encountered troubles financially for they only depend on her mother’s income
because her father served his people with honesty.
6. Since young, she was aware of how opressive the government was and how they don’t do their
duties and responsibilities. Unlike her deceased father who died being a man of honesty.
7. a. Terays’ husband could not assist their children financially for they were still attending college
that time and Teray failed to graduate because of pregnancy.
b. They really struggled financially. Infact, they could not find any way to pay their due bills.
c. She was left with no choice and accept an offer to be a maid in Port Bonifacio where she was
deprived from freedom.
d. She gave up of being a maid because of the bad experiences she endured in the city and
decided to give up and go back to her family.
8. Her father was a gret inspiration to her that she decided to help people who are in need just like
her deceased father.
9. Juls realized that life in province and having a simple life is much nicer than being in Manila
where pollutants are everywhere. Unlike in province, it’s quiet, simple, and the fresh air is just
to die for.
10. If I were Juls, helping would definitely come in my mind first especially knowing that I am
capable of doing such. I have the privilege that other people don’t, so I feel like I have to give
back to those who are unfortunate in life and make a small difference by doing simple acts. And
helping people is imporant because it’s good to do good deeds for other may it be small or big.
