4. Fill in the blanks with the appropriate word, or phrase.
a. Verbals act as nouns or adjectives.
b. Participles act as adjectives. It is an –ed or
-ing verbs.
c. Participles are words created from verbs that are then used as
adjectives to modify nouns in a sentence.
d. Participles can also be used as introductions to
verbal phrases.
e. Present participles always end in -ing and correlate to
events taking place in the current tense.
f. Past participle can either be regular or irregular
and refers to events that have already happened.
g. Gerunds act as nouns. It is an ing form of a verb.
h. Gerunds are specifically placed in the noun position of a sentence.
i. Infinitives usually act as nouns. It is formed by a combination of “to” and a verb.
j. Infinitives are singular verbs usually preceded by the word
“to”.
k. Infinitives can be used as a noun, an adjective, or an adverb.
