The best of Prague

Steeped in history, brimming with charm, and speckled with orange-topped roofs lies the
city of Prague in the Czech Republic. Whether you love castles, beauty, or are just hankering for
a good beer, Czech Republic’s most popular city is one of the most interesting in Europe. I’ve
been to Prague only in the summer, but I like to think that it is a wonderful place to visit no
matter the season. As one of Europe’s best-preserved cities you’ll meander cobblestone streets
to beautiful cathedrals or just to the commanding Charles Bridge.
In my opinion, Prague is the best place you can pick as a destination if you want to see the
history of the place, but relax in the same time. Some of the must-see places in Prague are: the
Prague Castle, the Petrin Park. Or you can even spend some time in a cafe in the Old Time
Square, while watching The Astronomical Clock — the most overhyped attraction in all of
Prague! While the hourly chime that people line up for is anticlimactic, the detail and artistry of
the clock make it one of the most beautiful in Europe. After that, you can visit the churches —
The beautiful Tyn and St. Nicholas churches line the square. St. Nicholas is open all day, but Tyn
is only open in the mornings and late afternoons.
If you want to have a long walk, while admiring the beauty of the city, choose Petrín Park. It is
the city’s biggest and most beautiful park, with sweeping views of Prague. You’ll find a garden, a
maze, and a lookout tower that looks like the Eiffel Tower. You can climb the 299 steps to the
top of the tower and get an awesome view of Prague (on a clear day, you can see the Czech
Republic’s highest pea, Snezka, some 150km away). What I love about this expansive park is
how easy it is to get lost among the trees. Paths meander throughout, and it’s a relaxing
contrast to the crowds of the historic center. Keep in mind that this park is on a big hill and
walking to the top can be strenuous. There is a funicular that can take you down (or up) the hill
if you don’t feel like making the trek.
In the end, hopefully this will help you decide what to see and do during your visit to Prague, if
you decide to visit this marvelous city.
