X-BEE/ZIG-BEE BASED PICK & PLACE ROBOT

DESCRIPTION:
The project is aimed to design a pick and place robot which can perform tasks beyond
human being, controlled from a remote place using PC using wireless zigbee technology.

ZIGBEE is a specification for a suite of high level communication protocols using small,
low-power digital radios based on the IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standard for Low-Rate Wireless
Personal Area Networks (LR-WPANs). ZIGBEE is targeted at radio-frequency (RF) applications
that require a low data rate, long battery life, and secure networking. ZIGBEE protocols are
intended for use in embedded applications requiring low data rates and low power consumption.
ZIGBEEs current focus is to define a general-purpose, inexpensive, self-organizing mesh
network that can be used for industrial control, embedded sensing, medical data collection,
smoke and intruder warning, building automation, home automation, etc. The resulting network
will use very small amounts of power.
Robot is invented as imitation to human actions. Within short time the robots occupied
major role in many applications as replacement to humans. It is proven in case of security
applications, military, aeronautical, navigation and many more.

The project is designed on 8051 micro controller, which comprises of a transmitter and a
receiver module, in the transmitter we use a zigbee connected to the PC, at the receiver side we
use a zigbee module for receiving the data from the transmitter, which is fed to the micro
controller. The data received in the controller will be checked for the appropriate command
which needs to be executed. Here we have four motors which form the basic skeleton of the
robot, a pair of motors are used to move the motor forward and back ward using wheels, and
another pair of motors are used to move the pick and place modules namely gripper and leave, to
open and close the gripping mechanism and to lift and drop the lever mechanism respectively, to
control the motor directions we use an L293D IC which serves the purpose of H-Bridge.
This project uses regulated 5V, 500mA power supply. 7805 three terminal voltage regulator is
used for voltage regulation. Bridge type full wave rectifier is used to rectify the ac output of
secondary of 230/12V step down transformer.
