What is the Device Booster benefit?

The Vitality Active Rewards Device Booster benefit allows you to earn up to 75% cash back on any Vitality-
linked fitness device from your preferred HealthyGear partner. These are either Sportsmans Warehouse
or Totalsports. Activate your HealthyGear and Device Booster benefits, and achieve your weekly Vitality
Active Rewards goals to earn monthly cash back for your fitness device.

Who is eligible for the Device Booster?

The Device Booster benefit is available to any Vitality Active Rewards member 18 and older, who has
activated the HealthyGear benefit. Our members can only have one Fitness Booster active at a time. Find

What you pay for the Device Booster benefit

 To qualify for cash back on the Device Booster benefit, you must buy your Vitality-linked heart rate
fitness device within 30 days of activating the benefit.
 If you do not buy your heart rate fitness device within 30 days of activation, your benefit will not be
fully activated. If you have any concerns about the availability of Vitality-linked heart rate fitness
devices, please contact your preferred branch of Sportsmans Warehouse or Totalsports. You can also
check availability on their online stores.
 The cash back you earned is based on how many goals you meet every month.
 You must pay the full purchase price of the qualifying heart rate fitness device that you choose from
Sportsmans Warehouse or Totalsports. Remember, only qualifying heart rate fitness devices bought
in-store and online are eligible for the Device Booster benefit.
 Heart rate fitness device brands that qualify for this benefit can be found on the Discovery app.
 You have access to Vitality Active Rewards through the free Discovery app. However, you will pay data
costs when you download or upgrade to the latest version of the app.
How does Device Booster work?

To qualify for Device Booster, you need to be a Vitality Active Rewards member with an active
HealthyGear benefit.

 Access Device Booster on the Vitality Active Rewards page through the Discovery app. Device Booster
can only be activated through the Discovery app.
 Activate HealthyGear on your personal Vitality profile. Complete your Vitality Age and Vitality Fitness
Assessments to earn up to 25% cash back on your qualifying spend at your preferred partner. The
main member and spouse, where applicable, both need to complete the Vitality Age and Vitality
Fitness Assessments to earn up to 25% cash back.
o If the partner you purchase your heart rate fitness device from is not your preferred
partner, you can still earn up to 10% cash back on your HealthyGear benefit. However,
in this case your total possible cash back is 60% (10% for non-preferred partner plus
up to 50% cash back for achieving Vitality Active Rewards goals over 24 consecutive
months).
o You can manage your preferred HealthyGear partner from the Discovery website by
logging in to your profile.

 Purchase your qualifying heart rate fitness device from Sportsmans Warehouse or Totalsports.
Remember to swipe your personal HealthyGear card or provide your personal HealthyGear number
to the cashier to get your initial cash back of up to 25%. You cannot use this benefit with another
person’s HealthyGear card or number.
 This Device Booster benefit will not work without your personal HealthyGear number. If you have
activated your HealthyGear benefit recently and do not have your HealthyGear card yet, you would
have received your unique HealthyGear card number by SMS.
 You will only qualify for a Device Booster cash back on a maximum amount of R4 000. Any amount
that you spend over this R4 000 will not qualify for cash back with Device Booster.
 Check your Activity history on the Discovery app to track how many goals you have achieved in a
month.
 The month after you buy your heart rate fitness device will be the first month that your Vitality Active
Rewards goal achievement counts towards your Device Booster cash back. If you activate Device
Booster and buy your new heart rate fitness device in March 2019, April’s goals will be the first to
count towards your Device Booster cash back.
 Earn up to 75% cash back on Device Booster for meeting your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals by
purchasing a qualifying heart rate fitness device brand. Device brands and stock levels may vary per
partner. Visit your neatest outlet to confirm availability.
 Qualifying heart rate fitness device brands include: Fitbit, Garmin, Polar, SUUNTO, Huawei.

How the Device Booster cash back is paid out

Your cash back percentage is based on achieving your Vitality Active Rewards goals for the previous
month.
 Heart rate devices can only be boosted to the maximum amount of R4000 through Vitality Active
Rewards.
 Your cash back is made up of a maximum 25% cash back on your HealthyGear benefit, plus a
maximum 50% cash back that you can earn by achieving your Vitality Active Rewards goals over a
period of 24 consecutive months.
o To calculate your Device Booster cash back, we take up to 50% of the purchase price
of your device (to a maximum of R4 000) and divide it by the 24 months over which
you will receive your cash back. That gives you the cash back amount you’ll receive
each month.
 Your cash back is paid monthly over 24 months. The monthly cash back amount depends on your
goal completion in the previous month.
 If your monthly cash back works out to less than R20 we will carry it over until the amount adds up to
more than R20 and then pay you the cash back.
 We will pay your HealthyGear cash back, up to a maximum of 25%, into the cash back account you
nominated. We will make this cash back payment on your billing date, the month after you buy your
heart rate fitness device.
o Please make sure that your cash back account details are correct and up to date so
you can receive your monthly cashback. You can manage and update your cash back
account details by logging in to your profile at the Discovery website.
 We will pay cash back on qualifying heart rate fitness devices that have been bought from Sportsmans
Warehouse or Totalsports stores, after yourDevice Booster benefit has been activated.
 If more than one heart rate fitness device is purchased in one transaction, your cash back will be
calculated on the higher-priced fitness device to a maximum of 4 000.
 If you return your heart rate fitness device, your Device Booster benefit will be cancelled and you will
no longer earn monthly cashback.
 If you exchange your heart rate fitness device for a new one, we will still calculate the Device Booster
cash back based on the first heart rate fitness device you bought.

Device Booster in action – an example of how the benefit works

Dineo earns 25% cash back at Sportsmans Warehouse and achieves all her Vitality Active Rewards
goals for 24 consecutive months.

Dineo is a Vitality Active Rewards member who activated her HealthyGear benefit and chose Sportsmans
Warehouse as her preferred partner. In March 2019, Dineo completes her Vitality Age assessment and
goes for her Vitality Fitness Assessment at a biokineticist in the Vitality Wellness Network to increase her
HealthyGear cash back to a maximum of 25%.

She then activates the Device Booster benefit through the Discovery app. In the first week of April 2019,
Dineo goes to Sportsmans Warehouse and purchases a new heart rate fitness device for R2 500. Because
Dineo’s HealthyGear cash back with Sportsmans Warehouse is 25%, she receives R625 during the next
cash back cycle.
From May 2019 to the end of April 2021, Dineo achieves all of her weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals.
This means that every month she earns cash back of 50% of the cost of her heart rate fitness device
divided by 24, meaning she gets R52.08 a month for 24 consecutive months. In total, Dineo earns R1875
which is made up of R1 250 cash back from Device Booster over 24 consecutive months plus her initial
R625 from the HealthyGear benefit.

Ending the benefit

 If you are no longer a Vitality member, the benefit will no longer apply and you will not be eligible to
receive cash back on Device Booster.
 Only one Fitness Booster can be active at a time per qualifying member on the Vitality policy.
 If you want to activate a new Booster benefit, you must first cancel your Device Booster benefit
through the Discovery app.
o By cancelling your Device Booster benefit you will give up any remaining cash backs under this
benefit.
o You will not earn cash back for any months that may remain for your Booster benefit , after
the cancellation date.
o You will be responsible to pay an activation fee for the new Booster that you choose
to take up. Device Booster has to be activated under your personal profile.
