TITLE: CALIBRATION OF STATE OF CHARGE INDICATOR

INTRODUCTION: CALIBRATION IS THE PROCESS OF COMPARING INSTRUMENTS/EQUIPMENTS TO

A CERTAIN STANDARD. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT OUR INSTRUMENT BE
CALIBRATED IN ORDER TO GET TRUE/REALISTIC VALUES.

OBJECTIVES: TO CALIBRATE THE INSTRUMENT ACCORDING TO THE VALUES OF ITS LINEAR

REGRESSION AS OPPOSED TO THE STANDARD VALUES OF CHARGES.

MATERIALS AND SET UP:

DMM

STATE OF CHARGE INDICATOR

POWER SUPPLY (LEAD-ACID BATTERIES):

12 V

24 V

24 V

PROCEDURE:

1. GET THE VOLTAGES OF EACH BATTERIES 1, 2 AND 3 BY THEMSELVES USING DMM.

2. GET THE VOLTAGES OF THE BATTERIES IN SERIES IN THREE DISTINCT PAIRS; 1&2, 1&3 AND
2&3.

3. USING THE INSTRUMENT , OBTAIN THE VOLTAGE AND STATE OF CHARGE VALUES OF THE
VARIABLES IN PROCEDURE 1 AND 2.

DISCUSSION

For Voltage:

The scale that can be read on the voltmeter have the intervals of .2 V which makes the
equipment inaccurate.
The standard values and the measurements are close to each other.

Using Analog instruments you need to be mindful of the terminal polarities.

For Current:

The scale that can be read on the analog ammeter have the intervals of .1 mA compared
to the resolution of the DMM of three decimal places.

The standard values and the measurements are close to each other.

Using Analog instruments you need to be mindful of the terminal polarities.

CONCLUSION/OBSERVATION

Based on the data gathered and the results acquired in the experiment, the group
concluded that modern instrument/s or the instruments which was used as the standard (in this
case is the dmm) is more reliable than traditional analog ammeters and voltmeters. You can
easilt record the data because modern made instruments show readings in form of values while
in traditional instruments, the scale must be read by recording the value where the analog hand
points which can contain more discrephancies. Also, using analog instruments you need to be
wary of the polarities.

RECOMMENDATION

Upgrade the instruments to have a more precise and accurate readings.

Analog instruments have certain use and limitations that you need to be aware of.
