Preface

In a well servicing company, e.g. Dowel1 Schlumberger, a thorough understanding of

wells is very important. Only such knowledge will lead to the proper identification or
diagnosis of the well problems that require service. This manual on well performance
evaluation is an attempt to define and understand an oil or gas well. It also identifies the
different parameters responsible for the well performance appraisal based on production.
The following example illustrates the concept:
Example Problem 0.1
Case history of a well:
Skin = 40 (veryhigh)
Skin due to formation damage = 9
Mechanical skin = 31
The client wants to acidize the well. (All other well and reservoir data are known.)
Prognosis:
1. Plot rate vs. skin (Fig. 0.1):
2. Matrix acidizing only removes
skin due todamage if the
perforations are open.
3. Complete success of the acid
job would reduce theskin by 9
to 31.
4. Fig. 0.1 suggests that a fully sd j
successful acidjob does not 0 10 20 30 40 50
improve production at all. S"

Fig. 0.1
5. The client then blames the
service company.
QUESTION: How would you respond in this situation?
