What is College For?

What is college for? Is something that some students don’t know how to answer or

maybe have a correct answer for this type of question. When I read this excerpt by William

Deresiewicz, I found interesting his response well he argued that the higher education is causing

social problems of soulless overachievers saying that as students we should explore what excite

us not to rise to the top of our career field. Deresiewicz says that the best we can do is to give

ourselves a real education where we can learn how to think and make smart choices for ourselves

and saying that college is not just for our first job even though its something important, but is

something that is for the rest of our lives.

I think college is a change given to us to think and reflect on life before our adulthood

path begins. As a student I can also say that college is like a chance to help us build our self to

and help us develop our self. I agree with Deresiewicz that a true education is something that

prepares you both to contribute with the GDP, but also train us to think carefully about who we

are and what people demand for us.

I’m curious about why does colleges don’t help us develop more our thinking and making

decisions skills? Since we pay for college to receive the full education as Deresiewicz mentioned

is something that’s is not fair for college students.
