Undergraduate Admissions
Stanford University

To whom it may concern,

I am a high school student with a passion for the sciences and I’d love to apply to Stanford University’s
Science, Technology, and Society program.

Ever since I was introduced to medicine—both the miracles and frustrations—I have always had a
strong desire to pursue a career as a physician-scientist so that I can one day contribute to clinical advancements
and pave the way to a better future, marked by innovation and progress. My goal is to one day change the world
through scientific research and discovery as well as public policy in order to hopefully solve the biggest issues
in public health.

Through my various leadership activities, the most important thing I’ve learned is that my work is only
as good as the impact it has on the communities and individuals I serve. I hope to continue empowering and
promoting inclusivity and understanding—inspiring others to believe that complex issues, no matter how
overwhelming and depressing, can be mitigated through the collaboration of perceptive and empathetic
individuals. Humility, compassion, and the will to change have come to represent the foundational ethos that I
live by and adhere to. I will continue to expand my perspective and learn more about my community and the
world to further engage, elevate, and empower myself and others to challenge norms, bridge disparities, and
create positive change.

Before I can change the world, though, I first need to understand it. Since our world is not black and
white, I don’t believe that any one discipline can teach me how to grapple with today’s pressing problems. This
is why I hope to seek an interdisciplinary education between the sciences, humanity, and public policy through
Stanford’s Science, Technology, and Society program, so I will be equipped with the tools to navigate and
research society’s complex issues. Through your program, I intend to fully engage myself in the complexities of
the nature and innovations of the scientific world and delve deep into its interactions with the social world. I
believe that, this way, I can truly make an effective impact on my local and global community.

Sincerely,
