A Dark Comedy.
A boy, who came from a wealthy family, was often lonely and left in a mansion. To the point where he
created characters and conversations in his head. He was an overweight child that his classmates would
bully him, and harass him emotionally and physically. This led him to depression which he carried all his
life. Meet Robin McLaurin Williams, the man who spread joy all around the world but suffered the most.
The artist who contributed a lot to the entertainment industry. He dedicated his life in making
people happy but in reality he was silently suffering just so he could spread joy all over the world. His life
was truly inspiring, he chose to study acting than political science. It’s quite a bold choice especially,
nowadays. If I were in his shoes, I would pursue the one that has a certain future me. Contrary, I believe
he knew that he wanted to pursue his acting career because it’s his passion. He knew that he should
enhance his talent, unfortunately, his life ended.
He’s father was a senior executive at Ford Motor Company and his mother was a former fashion
model. He was the only child of the couple and he was mostly raised by maids. When he was in 6 th
Grade, every day he would come home crying because of the bullying happening in his school. Later on,
he found comedy as his defense mechanism which became his talent.
He had a reputation where he was known as the “Class Clown”; nevertheless, his classmates
voted him as the “least likely to succeed”. He may think it’s just a joke his classmates pulled on him but I
believe it gave him the motivation to prove them wrong. After graduation, he was studying Political
Science but soon changes into Acting Class. Most people say, he would often be found in his College
Theater than lecture rooms. This led him into completely taking Acting Classes, where he excelled the
most that his teachers would have nothing else to teach. Because of this, he was offered a scholarship
from Julliard School of Performing Arts in New York City. His teachers would complement him saying he’s
a genius.
When he was released to the real world, he would mostly appear in comedy clubs as a stand-up
comedian. This became stressful for him that he engaged in becoming alcoholic and a drug addict. One
time, he met a producer and that gave him an opportunity to be showcased to the world.
He soon joined the Entertainment Industry where his short guest appearing gave us an
impeccable performance that left us in awe. He has a lot of energy when it comes to acting, like you could
really see the effort his making just to entertain people. He’s a professional that I would say. His scene
maybe short but it opened a lot of doors for him. He’s passionate about his job which is a good trait that
we must apply to ourselves, in my opinion.
He had a lot of movies and TV shows that were in the top charts but when reality hits him, it hit
him hard. He tried to be a better man but he lapsed into his addictions due to depression and stress. He
admitted himself to the Rehabilitation center and soon returns to the industry. He had a heart surgery
where he met his third wife while recovering.
He was alcoholic and a drug addict that it cost him his first wife to divorce him. His second wife
endured his addiction but divorced anyway. The last was the most painful, the last was with him until his
last breath, and he was suffering from depression, Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia to the
point where he wanted to end his suffering so he took his own life.
Because he was a successful actor, he left a big impact in this world. He was known for his roles
in “Dead Poet Society”, “Mork and Mindy” and “Mrs. Doubtfire”. A few hours after the tragic news, the
internet had a trending tribute to Williams where they would stand on their desks and say “Oh Captain, my
captain”. He is missed. He maybe an addict but he contributed a lot to the film industry and he became a
philanthropist. He respected the military that he entertained them in different countries.
For me, I think his life was a tragedy yet inspiring story, he endured it all until he couldn’t
anymore. He followed his heart and pursued what he wanted. He kept an optimistic work ethic. He’s like a
father who doesn’t want his children to worry about their family problems so he pretends to be okay.
Another thing that I learned from him is that we should be passionate in what we do in order to enjoy life.
