We’re so used to these types of stories that we’ve become

numb and disconnected from the people actually being
affected. It’s not that we don’t care, it’s that we don’t know
what to do.

This is where Grace comes in! We all need to be both

that saves – the type of grace that allows you to have
relationship with God through Jesus Christ. But there’s also
grace that goes beyond that.

Grace is favor. Grace is kindness. Grace is mercy. Grace is

No matter how good we are, we’ve all messed
up and gotten things wrong. Not only have we

to do wrong at times. No matter if it was as a

we’ve made decisions we knew were wrong.

That’s what “sin” is. We don’t like to be called
sinners nor do we like the consequences of sin. By
God’s measure, the only just consequence for sin
was permanent separation from from him forever.
But this is where grace came in! God freed us
from the penalty of our sins by sending his Son,
Jesus Christ, to take our place!

Instead of punishment, we received

righteousness. We didn’t (and don’t) deserve it,
but grace gave it to us anyway.

It’s sometimes difficult to believe in or feel grace
for our everyday situations. While we know there’s
grace for the “big stuff” like salvation, we have
trouble knowing there’s enough grace for those
less-monumental moments day in and day out.
We beat ourselves up for shortfalls, blame our
circumstances when things are out of control, and
even point the finger elsewhere when we’re too
afraid to look within ourselves. All of this is often a
byproduct of not believing there is enough grace
for us.
The Scriptures teach that grace cannot, and will
not, be exhausted. As the Apostle John put it,
“there is grace upon grace.” This grace is made
available to us during life’s biggest problems as
well as in the day-to-day and routine.
So don’t worry about what goes wrong today,
there’s enough grace to go around.

“And he gives grace generously. As the
Scriptures say, ‘God opposes the proud but
gives grace to the humble.’” – James 4:6
As with all good things in life, grace comes with
a catch. The catch is simple: In order to receive
grace you must be humble.
The very nature of grace requires that we have
the humility to recognize we’ve done wrong and
messed up. It takes humility to look at yourself
in the mirror and acknowledge the fact that you
aren’t perfect and you need help. Whether it’s
landing a job, nailing a project, or raising kids,
humility is the key to unlocking the grace we
need.
As we ask humbly, God gives generously. It’s
when we make ourselves small that he makes his
grace big.

today we focus on grace and boldness. How does
that work?

Let’s be honest: this can be incredibly difficult!

It’s so much easier to withhold the very grace

we are so often in need of from other people we
deem “less deserving.” Sadly, this is the world
we live in. At the workplace, in the classroom,
on social media, through news outlets - we’re
bombarded with messages containing little to no
grace.

We, too, are often the culprits in all of this; just as

guilty as anyone else we’d like to blame. But as
God’s people, we’re called to be different. We’re
called to serve others and stand out through the
grace we show.

Let’s strive today to be a people known by our

grace.

P R AY E R “See to it that no one falls short of the
grace of God and that no bitter root grows
Lord, up to cause trouble and defile many.” –
Hebrews 12:15

We pray that your grace may always precede
and follow us.
The author of Hebrews draws an interesting (and
dangerous) correlation: choosing not to show
grace could cause bitterness to sprout up and
manifest like a toxic poison that corrupts many
others.

That we may continually be given to good
works;
And a revelation of the grace we’ve been given
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

If, and when, we choose to withhold showing
grace to those in need, we could end up
polluting more than just one person with the
likes of bitterness and resentment. That’s a scary
thought!
But if that’s what could happen when we don’t
show grace, imagine what happens when we
do show grace! Instead of bitterness, joy and
delight would spring up. Instead of trouble and
defilement, we would harvest a crop of peace and
purity.

By being a source of grace, you bring life to

others, thus serving as a tangible expression of
God’s character in the flesh.
