A 2 kHz sound wave traveling in the x-direction in air was observed to have a
differential pressure p (x, t) = 10 N/m2 at x = 0 and t = 50 ms. If the reference
phase of p (x, t) is 36°, find a complete expression for p (x, t). The velocity of
sound in air is 330 m/s.
5. For a parallel-plate transmission line, the line parameters are given by:
R’ = 1 (Ω/m), L’ = 167 (nH/m), G’ = 0, C’ = 172 (pF/m).
Find the attenuation constant α, phase constant β, phase velocity up, and
characteristic impedance Z0 at 1 GHz.
6. A transmission line has the following per unit length parameters: R’ = 5 (Ω /m),
L’ = 0.2 (µH/m), G’ = 0.01 (S/m), C’ = 300 (pF/m). Calculate the propagation
constant and characteristic impedance at 500 MHz. Recalculate these quantities
in the absence of loss (R’=G’=0).
7. Find the attenuation constant α, phase constant β, phase velocity up, and
characteristic impedance Z0 at 1 GHz for the two-wire line with following per
unit length parameters:
R′ = 0.788 Ω/m, L′ = 139×10−9 H/m, G′ = 9.1×10−3 S/m, C′ = 362×10−12 F/m.
[γ = (0.109+ j44.5) m−1, α= 0.109 Np/m and β = 44.5 rad/m, Z0= (19.6+ j0.030)
Ω, up = 1.41×108 m/s]
8. Show that the transmission line model shown in figure below yields the same
telegrapher’s equations.
