Ferulic acid is an antioxidant of vegetable origin derived from the
Hydroxycinnamic acid, by its power anti-oxidant neutralizes free radicals
makers of oxidative stress in the cell membranes and DNA.
Helps protect the skin from damage caused by ultraviolet radiation,
prevents aging produced by the Sun, protect the dermal layer containing
elastin and collagen and capillaries.
Lately have been some formulas that appears next to the vitamins C and E
because, apparently, it stabilizes them, power and its antioxidant action
against oxidative stress and photoaging which can cause skin cancer.
The formula no. 2477 of the CompoundingToday.com is a gel in which
appears a mixture of three antioxidants in the following way:
VITAMIN C GEL, ACID FERULIC AND VITAMIN E
Ascorbic acid 15 g
Ferulic acid 0.5 g
Alpha Tocopherol 1 mL
Propylene glycol 5 mL
Hydroxyethylcellulose (5000 CPS) 2 g
20% NaOH aqueous solution c s
Water Conservans csp 100 mL
MODUS OPERANDI
1 make the necessary calculations.
2. weigh or measure each component properly.
3. dissolve the Ferulic acid in 60 mL of water Conservans at 60 ° C using a
Shaker.
4 cool Ferulic solution add vitamin C and continue stirring until it
dissolves.
5 dissolve alpha tocopherol in propylene glycol and add it to the above
solution while stirring.
6. adjust the pH to 5.6 with NaOH solution, which requires to add
approximately 10 mL of the solution.
7. crush the Hydroxyethylcellulose (if not fine powder) and slowly add
to the previous solution stirring while cooling to form the gel.
2
8 make up until the amount with the rest of the Conservans water, mix well
and cool.
9 packaging and labeling.
LABELLING
For external use.
Apply thin layer on the affected area.
Do not put in contact with eyes or mucous, can be irritating.
Shake before use. Keep in refrigerator.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Keep in cool and dry place.
PACKAGING
Containers that will close well and light-resistant.
EXPIRATION
30 days in refrigerator.
QUALITY CONTROL
Check weight and volume, pH, turbidity and rheological properties.
Physically observe stability, staining, foreign material, gas formation and
growth of mold.
APPLICATIONS
Topical antioxidants can be used to prevent damage and carcinogenesis
caused by ultraviolet radiation by a mechanism different from the of
sunscreens. The goal is to reduce inflammatory reactions, Erythema,
chronic sunburns, premature photoaging and prevent skin cancer.
It is appropriate to apply the formula along with a sunscreen.
Ferulic acid stabilizes the solution.
