“Daddy” Annotations

 Line 2- black shoe- images

 Line 3- “I have lived like a foot”- simile

 Line 4- “For thirty years, poor and white- images, probably old stressed person.

 Stanza 1- ABABA rhyme pattern

 Line 6- Daddy, I have had to kill you- words, kill is a really strong word and ties into the

poem.

 Line 8- Marble-heavy, a bag full of God- Metaphor, God is like marbles.

 Line 8- God- religious symbol

 Line 9- Ghastly- Definition- great horror or fear.

 Line 9- Ghastly statue with one gray toe- images
