So, as we have seen last session, the course on the past and present tenses, this time we are
going to look at the use of the future
So, we have:
Future Simple Future continuous
I will listen I will be listening
Future Perfect Future Perfect Continuous
I will have listened I will have been listening
1- Using the present continuous to express a future plan/ arrangement already made
Tomorrow, I am giving a presentation to the board.
2- You can use “be going to” to talk about future plans
I am going to advertise the vacancy on the paper.
-Talk about a prediction based on some evidence
We’ve got the new plans for the office. It is going to look great.
Clients are not going to come to us if our fees are too expensive.
PS. Use the present continuous when you have arrangements clearly made (time and/or place
indicators used)
I am getting on the plane to Brussels tomorrow at 7.00 am and Jan is meeting me at the
airport.

Ok, now as you finished those tasks, there are some expressions used to express the future, let’s
take a look:
-Be/ seem+ likely/unlikely + to infinitive
Economic recovery is likely to happen slowly.
Interest rates seem unlikely to rise over the coming year
-Be about+ to = s.thg that will happen very soon
The company is about to launch a new robot.
-Be due+ to = s.thg that will happen at a particular time
Several companies are due to announce their bankruptcy next month
- Be supposed+ to =s.thg intended to happen / s.one intends to do something
They are supposed to announce their bankruptcy next month.
-Be expected+ to= s.thg likely to happen
Transport costs are expected to rise next year
-Be set+ to = the conditions now mean that s.thg will probably happen
Frankfurt airport is set to become the largest airport ever.
