Describe the duties of house officer.

i. Describe the duties of Medical officer


A medical officer is responsible for managing the various aspects of a health care facility or center.
The officer performs quality assurance assessments of services within a health care system. The
medical officer also develop business strategies of a health care system and can work in a private
doctors' complex, hospital, residential treatment facility or nursing home. This position is also known
as a health services officer, health services administrator or health business manager
A medical officer assesses the quality of a health care system through procedures of internal audit and
quality assurance involving financial, logistical, patient services and health management systems. The
medical officer prepares reports from these modules to develop or further enhance the administrative
or business system process to improve the quality of health care to patients. From a standpoint of
budgeting, a medical officer can assist in reviewing a budget of a health care facility and highlight
certain programs that may need expansion or reduction in funding.

ii. Describe the duties of registrar


1. Patient assessment and management in consultation with the treating consultant. This will involve
attending acute and elective admissions under the team during normal working hours, review of
inpatients and participating in ward rounds with consultants and outpatient clinics. It may include:
o formulating plans of management
o implementing the decisions of senior medical staff on patient care
o determining, instigating and following up appropriate investigations
o performing procedures within your capabilities
o coordinating appropriate consultation with other specialty departments and services
o interacting with other health professionals, including nursing and allied health staff, in provision of
ongoing clinical care to patients
o maintaining the patient clinical record
o ensuring appropriate and timely communication to other health care providers and cares to ensure
ongoing patient care post hospital stay.

3. Communication with patients and their families, where appropriate, about the patient’s diagnosis
and management.
4. Development of professional knowledge and skills through active involvement in the educational
programs of the hospital, which may include attendance at tutorials, workshops and training

activities.

iii. Describe the duties of consultant


o The Consultant will be competent to provide advice on complex clinical problems and

iv. Describe the duties of Deputy Medical Superintendent

1. To assist the Medical Superintendent in the supervision of the psychiatric, neurological and
medical investigations and treatment of the patients.
2. to deputies for the Medical Superintendent when he is absent.
3. To assist the Medical Superintendent in the teaching of undergraduate post-graduate medical students
and nursing sisters.
4. To carry out research in allied subjects, under the supervision of the Medical Superintendent.
5. To guide the House Physicians and other technical staff in their professional and administrative duties.
6. To supervise the training of Ward Attendants and other medical auxiliaries.
7. To arrange for case demonstrations and seminary etc. in the hospital.

v. Describe the duties of Medical Superintendent

1. To be in-charge of the Hospital both administrative and Medical for the progress, development and
organization of the Hospital in all aspects.
2. To look after the training, efficiency in the standard of investigation, diagnosis, treatment and
management of the patients in the Hospital.
3. To create a team of workers for the benefits and welfare of the patients.
4. To stimulate and organize research work.
5. To provide patient care in the concerned specialty.
6. Any other duties that may be assigned by the authorities from time to time.
Understand the term related to the Technical occupations in Hospitals

i. Enlist the terms related to the technical occupations


1. Radiographers, 2. Operation Theater Technician, 3. Laboratory Technician, 4. Dental Technician,
5. Ultrasound Technician, 6. ECG Technician, 7. Medical Technician.

ii. Describe the duties of Operation Theater Technician

a) He will be in-charge of all the equipments of the Operation Theatre. He will be responsible for proper
care & maintenance of these equipments and ensure that these equipments are available in working
condition during the time of surgery.
b) He will supervise the work of Operation Theatre Technicians and plaster cutting Technicians.
c) He will be responsible for maintaining Theatre cleanliness, periodical fumigation, control of infection.
d) In-charge of linens and ensure clean linen is available from Dhobi at the time for autoclaving.
e) Adherence to work discipline.
f) Reporting of Estrogenic complications.
g) Liaison with other departments and with OI/C PMRD.
h) Availability of all Anesthetic equipments and drugs.
i) Any other job assigned from time to time.

iii. Describe the duties of Radiographer

a) He will be the In-charge of the X-Ray Equipments.


b) He should ensure that registers are maintained properly and the equipment is maintained properly.
c) He should ensure that X-Rays are done only of the cases where there is requisition for X-Rays. He will
take X-Rays develop the films, drugs and send back to the requesting authority.
d) All receipts of X-Ray materials to be entered in a Register and consumption must be reflected in the
register. Once in a month charging off to be done.
e) All the receipts on consumption must be signed by Medical Officer of X-Ray Department.
f) Any other job assigned from time to time.

iv. Describe the duties of Laboratory Technician

a) He will be the In-charge of all stock.


b) He is responsible for all the materials and chemicals and chemicals of the Laboratory.
c) He will do all the lab. Investigation as advised by the Doctors.
d) Daily register of patients investigations is maintained.
e) All reports of investigations are to be given in the prescribed stamps and to be signed by the Medical
Officer In-charge of Laboratory Department.
f) Collection of samples.
g) All slides of clinical importance are to be preserved.
h) He should ensure the weekly consumption of chemicals is entered in the register.
i) Supervise the junior or other workers of Lab. Technician.
j) Maintains discipline.
k) Any other job assigned from time to time.

v. Describe the duties of Dental Technician


Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, performs technical duties related to the production
and repair of dental prostheses and maintenance devices. Participates in projects. Demonstrates the
operation of equipment and techniques. Makes recommendations concerning work methods and
procedures. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Discusses the orientation and technical demands of the projects and assignments. Reviews, selects
and modifies methodology. Assumes responsibility for the technical aspects in the execution of these
projects.
2. Prepares prostheses, crowns and bridges, maintenance devices and prostheses on implants.
3. Receives impression and prescription. Fabricates dentures, prostheses and corrective devices with
precision and according to the prescription. Verifies the articulation and occlusion.
4. Carries out the repair of all dental prostheses, dentures, maintenance devices, crowns and bridges.
5. Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Provides technical guidance and
assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and the analysis of
results.
6. Completes various forms and prepares reports.
7. Collaborates with unit supervisor and makes recommendations concerning equipment, work
methods and effective procedures in order to respond to requirements and ensure the efficient and
optimal use of equipment. Performs literature searches in order to adequately provide advice.
8. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.
9. Maintains equipment, performs minor repairs and arranges for servicing and major repairs.
Ensures cleanliness of working area and appropriate inventory.
10. Uses various instruments such as an oven, polishing and grinding motors, gas valves, soldering
iron, hydraulic press, amalgamator, celluloid plate printer and personal computer.

vi. Describe the duties of Ultrasound Technician


1. Operation of ultrasound equipment in order to capture images that describe the composition, shape
and motion of tissues, organs and liquid buildup.
2. Analysis of the captured images, finding out variations between healthy and imperfect areas
including in the report to be forwarded to the physician
3. Summarize the technical inferences and forward to the physician for diagnosis

4. Making sure that the image produced by the equipment is clear for the diagnosis. Else making
adjustments of the equipment to get better images.
5. Helping patients prepare for the procedure. Explaining the process, helping them to move to the
table, preparing the skin surface by application of gel before using the equipment.
6. Communicating effectively with the patient and maintaining his/her comfort level during the
examination
7. Maintaining the records of patients for future reference
vii. Describe the duties of ECG Technician
1. Attaches, connects, and operates electrodes from specified body areas to leads from
electrocardiograph machine.
2. Reviews patient's record and instructs patients prior to procedures. Monitors patient during
procedures and reports any abnormal findings.
3. Identifies and corrects for artifacts. Edits and forwards results to attending physician for analysis and
interpretation.
4. Maintains ECG equipment and supplies.
5. Other duties as assigned.

viii. Describe the duties of Medical Technician


Primary medical technologist work duties include preparing samples of body tissues, performing
routine tests on certain types of equipment at the hospital or clinic, conducing biological analyses of
specimen, conducting chemical analyses, communicating test results to physicians, reporting blood
counts to medical professionals, cleaning and sterilizing certain types of equipment and using
various types of computer technologies..
1. Assure presence of Medical Technologist in General Lab to attend emergent physician unit
requests.
2. Dispatch Medical Technologist to draw specimens when phlebotomist is not available.
3. Manage physician and nursing unit concerns and follow-up with staff.
4. Follow personnel standards and safety policies.
5. Determine staffing needs and call in staff when workload warrants.
6. Inform specimen, reports and worksheet review status to shift supervisor or charge person.
7. Function as resource person for Specimen Processing in supervisor’s absence.
8. Communicate important information verbally or in writing to next shift.
9. Contact maintenance personnel during instrument failure or malfunction.
10. Contact on-call pathologist.
11. Handle analytical processes for moderate and high complexity testing.
